[OT] Everquest killed my hard drive!

So I recently decided to start playing Everquest again, to get in the mood to try out Everquest d20. I installed it a few days ago, and was having a grand time with the handful of characters I created.

Then, last night, after I was done playing, the game froze up while I was quitting. I didn't really think much of it since the performance had been sluggish the whole time I was playing (which I attributed to my less-than-stellar dial-up connection).

So, I reset the computer...

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

GRR.

I dunno how, but EQ destroyed my hard drive. I was able to restore the hard drive using a previously ghosted image, but jeesh...I've never heard of a game destroying a hard drive before.

It was probably not the game. You in all probability hit the power or reset at a critical time that some read/write operation was occurring in the File Allocation Table and the interrupted write operation damaged the FAT table or partition table of the Master Boot Record.

well if it the mbr, boot up the computer with a put in a windows boot(startup) disk and at the prompt do a fdisk /mbr
ie at the prompt thype fdisk /mbr

that should fix the mbr(Master boot record)

Other than that, pool of raidance 2 was known to do some crazy stuff to the hd as well
