[OT] Finally.. the evil of SPAM is being defeated!

I don't think we should blame spammers for the problem - they're acting on a market imperative.

We should blame the 0.01% of recipients who do sign up for the organ enlargement/reduction/refinancing programs offered (after all, if it was 0.00%, even the spammers wouldn't bother....)

Junk mail actually saves you money by subsidizing the cost of postage, so I don't mind it. Except the ones that are cleverly disguised to look like something from the IRS, thus tricking me into wasting my time opening them.

There is special level of hell reserved for telemarketers. I have been getting calls regularly from some jokers who want to know what type of cat food I buy. I DON'T BUY THE CAT FOOD IN THE HOUSEHOLD. THE PERSON WHO DOES IS NOT HOME. PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE.

I feel better now.

I have found that a $30 investment in spam-filtering software has been totally worth it. I would easily pay $30 to filter out telemarketers. :)

My father was plagued by telemarketers, we're talking 2-3 day (almost always during dinner of course). Anyway he bought this little device that hooks up to the phone and when you pick up the phone it makes a small beep, like a busy signal. Since most telemarketers are using computers to do their calling the computer recognizes the line as busy and hangs up. Phone still rings, but I don't think he's spoken to a telemarketer since he installed it.

I have the same thing and it cut down the telemarketers a bt. I'm still plagued by them though. I can change the device to 3 beeps which is a higher success rate but 3 beeps is really anoying.

I just typed up a huge e-mail detailing many points about Spam, and the boards just ate it, unfortunately. Darned SQL errors.

OT? but I'm curious. How is SQL used on boards? I use SQL every day for queries and the like but I'm ignorant of web design, and boards.

Any good instuctional sites anyone wants to point out?

I don't think this will help at all. It will have the same impact as when they (whomever "they" is) tried to prohibit illegal downloads of copywritten materials, such as mp3s of songs and pdf files (scanned images of the PHB for example). Sure it's illegal, but it hasn't stopped them and I can very easily find about any book out there via a scanned pdf file, if I wanted to :D

Always glad to help. Trust me, if you had your own domain name, like, say, wizardru.net, for example, and you had a website that mentioned your e-mail address, too, then you'd be seeing a lot more. Pottery wheels don't resell your e-mail address, either. :D
