to prevent this from ever happening to my mortal remains i will have to make certain that my corpse is braised and stewed with cabernet, a mire poix of pearl onions, baby carrots, and celery hearts. a bouquet garni of fresh rosemary, thyme, parsley, and a bay leaf with offer good flavorings.

if served with boiled new potatos and some wilted greens prepared properly my meat whould be flavorful and tender and easily feed a family of ten.

Yes but what or rather who are we haveing for dessert ?

Actully it reminds me of the D20 Moderns "Shadow Chasers " adventure that was in the last Poly/Dungeon.

Doc:

i think a simple dessert of a cranberry sorbet drizzled liberally with some grey goose vodka would cap off the meal of my flesh.

so should i sign you up for a reservation?

They did arrest the guy today.

The families are really freaked out, needless to say. It seems he was putting wood ashes in the urns.

Just when they get through the grieving and go on with life they're told that the bodies of their loved ones are just laying in a shed or ditch somewhere.

Bastard.

Funny. As I was reading an article on the New York Times about the incident, the ad that's playing on the right side...

Six Feet Under.

Totally appropiate.

Bastard indeed. I hope everyone's remains get sorted out. I suppose it's very zen to say that, "We are not our bodies", but seeing your relatives' remains abused and neglected in such a horrendous manner must be a shocking and tragic ordeal.

Sort of on the same subject, within the past three years our family lost two dogs that had been with us for many years, both to different types of cancer. This lead to us finding out that, not only is cremation priced "by the pound", but that some cremation services (for pets, perhaps not humans), cremate many corpses at the same time, and simply dole out the proper ratio of ashes to each family.
Thankfully our vet has her own crematorium on the premises and always cremates the animals seperately and picks out an appropriate tin to put them in. Interestingly enough, the ashen remains of our 114 pound yellow labrador, Hannah, still weigh more than any of our, still living, cats.
Cremation is the way my mother wants to go, so to speak. She has no interest in rotting away in the ground. With all of these stories on the news about corruption in the funeral industry, perhaps we should take her to the vet if we want it handled correctly and with dignity. :( Thankfully, though, that will be a long ways off.

Edited for missing words!

...and on a similar topic, the other day I read something about a new technique: the body is lowered into liquid nitrogen, freeze drying it within seconds. It is then brittle enough to be blasted into a fine, organic powder using ultra sound.

The remains can then be buried in an organic box that decomposes. It said that it would take about six months for the plants on the grave to use the nourishment from the remains.

Brilliant plan, actually (The liquid nitrogen thing, not A Modest Proposal).

The funny thing is, as morbid and disrespectful as this is, the worst thing they can charge him with is theft (and maybe the same statutes that "con artistry" falls under).

I do know one thing: it's not the criminal charges this man needs to worry about. He will hit with so many civil suits his children and grandchildren wouldn't make enough money to pay them all off.

It's 118 bodies at last count, by the way.

... and possilby 100 more yet to be found; they're going to try and dredge the lake on the premesis (sp?) today to see if there are any in there.

FYI, he's being charged (thus far) with 5 counts of Theft by Deception.

From having a family member who passed away in the past five years and was cremated, I can't tell you how much this story horrifies me. The thought of my loved one being stacked like cordwood in a building or thrown into the woods is horrifying. I know that this guy is only being charged with Fraud but I wish something much worse would happen to him. Civil cases are well and good, but in the end its only money and at some point, he will just be broke and living off the govt.

I certianly hope the pagans are right and this stuff comes back to him threefold. Its times like this that i wish there really was a hell.

based on my own reading of the articles about this, it strikes me the guy simply didn't want to spend the money to fix the incinerator. Somehow he figured he could just stick the bodies wherever, take the money, and everything would be hunky-dory.

There are lots of insane things that people do, but even someone with a scrap of logic and reasoning left to them would know they couldn't get away with that forever. What the hell could have been running through the guy's mind? I don't know how much it would cost to replace or fix an incinerator, but it would have been worth it in the long term. The only way this makes any kind of sense, ironically, is if the guy is insane.

Sickening beyond belief.
