[OT] Good things...

Today when I picked up my 1 year old little girl from my mother's house, I snuck in quietly and when she saw me a cute smile took over her face very slowly and then she yelled, "Da-Da!" real loud.

That's the best.

Also I heard today that our very own Old One (who writes the Faded Glory Story Hour) is having a son. The ENWorld family gets a little bigger every day.

There is a lot to be happy about. :)

Here are a few verbal snapshots of the good things in my life.

It's pouring down rain at 6:30 in the morning. My husband is standing outside in the back yard with and umbrella, which he is holding over the dog, because she has to do her business, and she's afraid of the rain.

My mother-in-law, who has never said a single unkind word to me in the 15 years I've known her, grumbling over the NY Times crossword puzzle as she sits at her dining room table with a cup of coffee and a bagel. The sun shines in the window and glints off her silver hair.

The look in my husband's eyes when I come down the stairs with a new dress on, and he says, "You look beautiful, dear."

My sister-in-law, proudly showing us her paintings the day before the opening of her first one-woman show. The owner of the gallery kindly let her bring us in, since we had to go back home (in another state) early the next morning.

The look of trust, love & happiness in my dog's face as she successfully completes a complex exercise at obedience class. If she could talk, she would say "Look how good I did!"

Wow...almost missed this because the threads are flying thick and fast lately! (Shows you what happens when you stay away from the computer for a day...bad, bad Yeebarr!)

Anyway, good thread Quickbeam - one that I heartily believes deserves another *bump*...uh, I mean look at!

Here's my (unfinished) list of the good things in life:

* Rolling a nat 20 when the life of your team depends on it

* The awkward initial conversations with someone you really like

* Spending time with good friends

* A joke that makes you laugh so hard you almost forget to breathe

* The smile you get from someone you know who loves you unconditionally

* The uncontrollable laugh of a young child

* Finally realising your place in this world...and it's not that bad...

Wherever you are and whoever you are; I hope you can relate. Stay safe...and remember to pick up a dice before you think about picking up a weapon...

:)

I was thinking of posting a thread like this just the other day.

I get happy sometimes when I take walks. My best walk ever was one night in art school when my roommate was REALLY getting on my nerves, and there was nowhere to go in the house to just be alone. It was pouring out... thunderstorm. I grabbed my walkman and just left. I walked for about two hours through streets no one was even driving through, soaking wet, listening to Gamma Ray's "Man on a Mission" and Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free". I don't think I've ever felt so much like I could just take off into the sky and armwrestle Thor. Big smile, practically yelling along to the lyrics. I didn't even care that I got lost.

I've been walking recently (same music in my discman) and it's just a fantastic experience. Positive but aggressive music about freedom and overcoming tyranny on a dark road in New England early fall weather, thinking about plot developments for my story hour. That's nice.

No wife or kids to smile at me, but sometimes I don't mind.
