Who here is in Houston Texas?

I'm supposed to be flying there tomorrow, but I hear there is a hurrican about to hit.

Is it going to be a big pain in the butt to be there during all that or will it be no big deal since Houston is so far inland?

Im thinking of postponing my trip if its gonna be a big hassle.

I'm not in Houston, I'm a few minutes south of Dallas - but this has been on the news all night here. According to the weather folks the hurricane (still just a tropical storm now) won't hit the mainland until between 5 & 7 pm (central) time. It is expected to skirt the coast, not go anywhere near Houston. Hope this helps.

Thomas,
The main hurricane should miss Houston completely. They still aren't sure exactly where it'll make landfall. Houston might get some rain, T-storms, high winds, etc. but nothing that should be overly damaging or dangerous.

Here in San Antonio (depending on the course of the storm) we'll get T-storms dropping anywhere from 3-6 inches with possible isolated "core storms" dropping 10-15 inches. We are about 150 miles inland. Houston is much closer to the coast, hurricanes that come right up through Galveston or nearby can cause serious damage in the city.

You are smart to be asking though, hurricanes are an impressive force of nature and not to be trifled with.

You should be fine this week though.

I'm in Houston. It is rainy and a little windy, but that's about it. The hurricane, last I heard this a.m., has veered south-by-southwest away from the Galveston-Houston area. I doubt we'll get much more than quite a bit of rain, as opposed to the poor folks in Port O'Connor, who are getting hit by Claudette right now.

Also, as far as hurricanes go, Claudette is pretty minor league. Winds are near the bare minimum to be classified as a hurricane. There probably won't be too much damage all around, barring problems with flooding caused by the storm surge (which won't affect Houston much at all).
