[OT] I Graduated HS today! YAY!

Gratz! Now you get to (hopefully) go on to college and learn what *real* education is all about.

Highschool was a sleepwalk in the park with butterflies and fluffy bunnies, my young friend. REAL education will stretch your mind an work you like you've never imagined possible.

But don't worry about it, it's a good thing and quite enjoyable. Education with purpose and direction, without the "sanitized for the unwashed masses" spoonfeeding is something to look forward to.

Congrats, man. This certainly should be a good time for you. My 10 year reunion is in August. (I'd like a little of that Geritol, if there is any left).

And let me respectfully disagree with those who are saying that this is the pinnacle. I quote Randall "Pink" Floyd from the film "Dazed and Confused" (a font of wisdom, truly) about high school: "All I am saying is if I look back and say 'These were the best years of my life' I hope someone will shoot me."

College is pretty cool, though (says the guy working on his PhD).

Congrats man! My only advice? Enjoy this summer before you head off. University is plenty of work (or it should be :p ).

Majoring in History? Cool. So did I. But make sure you know where you are going with it, b/c I got my BA in History and now I'm doing a job that has nothing to do with it. But I'm sure you're good. Not everyone is as short sighted as me. :D

I plan on having a good deal of fun, though my parents want me to work full-time. To hell with that. Work full days maybe 3, 4 times a week, at most.

Yep. I hope to snatch up a career as a host for a show on the history channel, a'la the guy who does Conquest....but that's the BIG goal. The other ones are maybe anthropologist, historical consultant for the entertainment industry, teacher(HS seniors or college), something like that. Most likely going to start as a teacher, since those jobs are almost always open.

Congrats on your new-found freedom!

If I may be so presumptuous as to give advice:

I, too, have a BA in History; generally, these things are worthless on their own. If you're serious about the entertainment aspect of it, seek at the very least a second major or a minor in broadcasting or a similiar program. Education doesn't matter near as much (or so it seems nowadays) as a good internship. A television-related major will make it easier for you to secure an internship with a television program than a history major. I may be biased however; my university's history department rarely bothers with students outside of the classroom, so maybe you'll have a better time of it where you'll be going.

Good luck, and keep gaming!

Angcuru,

Congrats on the graduation!

And if I may also add a little advice concering career choices and history majors...consider the National Park Service. Good historians and interpreters are a dying breed in the NPS, plus it pays better than teaching! :)

Congratulations, Angcuru1

Have fun this summer. Remember, you will need to put in a lot of study hours in college. (Partying is not a good major, but a little is fine.)
