[OT] I have been given the dusty boot!

Well all, I know I am more of a lurker here than anything else, but since I have been hanging around you motley bunch for nigh on two years or so now, I figured it would be good form to say goodbye, well at least for now.

You see, my scheming, nefarious roommate has gone and signed a new lease with our landlord. One which excludes both my name and my wife's name. When confronted, he gave no reason for this act of cowardly maliciousness. We had been having major issues before this sneak attack; I had recently asked him to move out because he was unemployed, had no prospects and was running out of cash.

I wasn't heartless, we have been friends for about ten years, I even offered to help him get a new place. He is a changed person. I didn't really believe he could do something like this.

The end result, I am being evicted from the apartment I have had for 6 years. I have the standard 30 days and all that legal sillyness. I will have to leave the boards for a while and concentrate on putting a roof over my head. Hopefully that won't take too long and I'll be back lurking and dispensing the odd gourmet quip in no time.

Until then,

:(

Gads! How could he legally be able to do that? Have you sought the counsel of a lawyer? Have you spoken to the landlord yourself?

Good luck!

Should have taken a few more levels of Rogue so you wouldn't be caught flat-footed. That said, I wish you the best of luck straightening out your situation.

Legally, it probably wouldn't hold water in a court of law. That's true, but I have been told that if I fight it, the Police will be here in 24 hours to help me on my way.

I could certainly win if I took it to court, but I need to find a place to live in the meantime.

Thanks for your thoughts, though...and BTW...count me in on this whole BADD movement. Dragons got the shaft! :D

I'd find some sort of inexpensive place to stay for the time then persue any and all legal action possible.

If you're paying for the apartment (even in part), your roomate shouldn't be able to legaly sign ANYTHING without your aproval, as I understand law... IANAL, though.

Gah! I'm too pissed off by this to have anything really constructive to say.
If you legally have 30 days left in the apartment then I don't see how anyone can call the police just because you decide to consult with a lawyer about the situation. Your roomate almost certainly couldn't, and I would think that the landlord coudn't either. 30 days notice is 30 days notice, after all. I'm just guessing though.

Feel free to let your roomate know that I, and probably many of the other "EN Worlders", think he's a scheming, cowardly, mealy-mouthed turncoat who hasn't got the right to be this high on the food chain.
I can't imagine what the landlord is thinking. Trading two paying tenants for this guy with no prospects? Weird.

EDIT: By the way, Good Luck to you and yours. Hopefully if you don't get to stay where you are, you can find an even better place.

It's good to know there are such nice kind hearted people out there.
What a backstabing son of a bitch.
That bastard is going to hell.

Sounds pretty unpleasant. You might want to talk to your landlord about the fact that: A) you and your wife have the steady income to pay rent, and B) your roommate does not. Or does your landlord hold some irrational grudge against you? It's hard to see why he would have gone ahead with the lease otherwise.

Anyway, good luck, and don't forget to give your roommate a kick in the junk for all of us!

Not only is this guy a royal jerk...how does he Mr. Unemployment think he's going to afford the place he used to leech off of you??

Call a lawyer anyways. He doesn't have to know. Don't let this piece of garbage intimidate you. I'd also consider talking to the landlord - course, if this guy takes his side, you don't want him as a landlord anyway.

The little...grrrr...don't take this lying down!
