[OT] I have been given the dusty boot!

Remember, there's no such thing as petty vengeance. But securing your new home is more important.

Best of luck, Chairman, and hurry back.

Sincerely,
Greg

Dude, was there a valid lease currently in effect when the sneaky roommate did his business? If it ws in the middle of your lease term, the landlord shouldn't be able to get out of the lease like this and you should definitely go see a lawyer.

If you've paid the rent for the next month, you shoud be able to stay for the next month. And I don't know about the legal system where you live, but where I am, there is a system to hear lease disputes in an expedited manner.

All in all, the best advice is to find a lawyer who does this kind of thing and ask about it. If money's an issue, you might call legal aid--they deal with shady landlord-tenant stuff all the time.

I hope things work out

Good Luck Chairman! And I would second those here who suggest a lawyer, wise advice from all. I hope all goes well for you and your wife and you are able to get back soon to join us! (Hey, you could always use an internet cafe for your fix ;) ) Take Care!!

I had a landlord once who rented me a place that wasn't even his! Because of that, I received no legal rights either(while it's normally three months over here - hey, finding a place in Amsterdam is a near impossibility!), and the original tennant just said: "You are going to be gone in one week."

I've had similar problems.

Two of my best friends and I shared a great apartment in a great location. They were on the lease, I was not. This was, we're pretty sure, illegal.

After three years, my friend got a big raise and decided it was time for a house, so he said; 'I'm moving out.' So the other guy and I decided to try and rent the place ourselves. The people who owned the place said; 'No, not only are we not renewing the lease but we want you out.'

We kinda wondered why. Then, after we'd moved out we found out. They wanted to raise the rent by over 400 dollars, which they couldn't legally do without kicking us out and rerenting it. :(

My sincerest thanks to you all...

I appreciate the kind words and advice from all of you. No where else have encountered such a kind group of people. ENWorld is kind of my home away from home, as I am sure it is for all of you, I will miss while I am gone.

I have retained a lawyer in the matter, and I will be persuing it, I assure you. In the meantime, my wife and I have found a nice place not too far from my current abode, and I will find out tomorrow if we have gotten the place.

So fingers crossed all, and once again I thank all of you for your words and advice.

With determination and a little luck, I will be seeing you all again soon.

The law is on your side. You can probably get damages from the landlord. Find a cheap place, then inform them via subpoena that there's a reason we have the laws we have, and they'll have to answer for violating them, which is only proper.

Bah! Lawyers, smawyers. The thing to do is take the law into your own hands. Beat the hell out of him and toss HIM out. And remind him that if he calls the police that you'll get out of jail LONG before he gets out of the hospital!
