[OT] Indiana Jones IV to be Steven Spielberg's next priority

I like the Indy films, but I've never quite understood why they're as popular as they are. There isn't anything wrong with them, it's just that there are, let's see, 4 Spielberg films that I like better: CE3K, Jaws, Duel, and Jurassic Park. The first Indy movie would be the fifth.

I'm glad Spielberg has decided to do the film, though. After Schindler's List, he talked about how he couldn't see himself doing "popcorn" films again, and then went through a period where most everything he did was grim - even JPII, which ranks as one of the biggest disappointments I've had going to the movies; it was so dark and mean-spirited.

Personally, I wish Lucas had had him direct one of the Star Wars films.

What are some other decent pulp movies made in the last 30 years, anyway? Here are some that I liked:

Romancing the Stone (ignore the awful sequel)
Big Trouble in Little China
The Golden Child
King Solomon's Mines (1985 version - hehe I really love this movie but again ignore the awful sequel)
Indiana Jones (all three, but they get worse as the series progresses)

Dont forget Rocketeer, one of my fave movies.

As for Raiders its still my alltime fave action film.

Mixmaster,

There was an Indiana Jones RPG that TSR put out in the mid-1980s. I am not familiar with it. You might want to check with TalonComics. (He may even have a copy.)

I wonder what legendary artifact Indy will run into and what deity might be associated with it. Remember, he ran into the Lost Ark of the Covenant, the Stones of Shiva, and the Holy Grail.

There was also a West End Games made Indy game. Used the D6 system.

Other games also had Pulp supplements. ICE's Pulp Adventures was pretty damn good I thought.

The philosopher's stone would be a perfect choice except that the whole Harry Potter being so recent thing might be a problem.

I've always wanted to see them do an Indy & Atlantis story.

The only prob there is that the recent Disney film Atlantis pretty well did exactly that.

Yeah, that's another good one ruined by a recent release. There was even an Atlantis/Indiana computer game, so the precedent is already set.
