The first two months are tough. The constant requirements for feeding/changing combined with lack of sleep will wear on you and your wife. Do whatever you must do to stay sane for the first two months. This might include eating fatty foods, watching bad television, taking frequent hot baths or short bouts of primal scream therapy. Whatever it takes to get through it, indulge yourself.
After the first two months, well, it's still tough. But at about two months, they start to smile and then you feel appreciated for your efforts.
