Oh, and now they're going to kill off the nephew of Hammond, just because he has good business sense and wants to kill the rampaging monster. But nooooooooo, he wants to harm the pretty animals (that killed dozens of people). He deserves to be killed by the T-Rex too, because of course Hollywood people care more about saving the environment than about making money. They're nothing like the In-Gen folks.

Well, to be fare. I think the reason why he got killed was not because he wanted to kill the adult T-Rex, but instead he wanted to keep the immature T-Rex to make money off of it. The nephew was stupid enough to go into the cargo hold to catch it by himself without any help.

And wasn't Hammond's nephew the guy who hired all of the hunters to capture dinosaurs and bring them to the mainland in the first place, or am I mis-remembering things?

As for the eco-nut, I somewhat agree with you. He also emptied that one hunter's bullets which may have resulted in even more people getting killed.

an eco-terrorist Druid is the only character concept that involves a druid that interests me in playing. :)

That militant agreesive desire to slaughter those that despoil Mother Nature is about the only reason that a Druid would leave their Grove, IMO.

And I loved Lost World.
So many dinosaur-licious scenes. MMMmmmmmm.... :)

I believe nephew Hammond was killed because he committed the sin of JP: he tried to control nature (chaos, embodied in the form and will of dinosaurs).

okay ( i read the book long ago), but how did everyone the ship get killed? ...

did more dino's get in? ... what happened to the pilot? I mean his hand was there ... but what got him? (not the t-rex it was down in the hold).

and why didn't those hunters just turn and start using there automatic weapons to mow down the grass? or the t-rex for that matter ... they could have turned that thing into a swiss-cheese dino!

good grief, there ought to be a law against hiring incompetent henchmen!

I have gun, use said gun ... kill big monster ... oh and run a bit and dodge. listen to head honco guy or his best friend instead of running liking an idiot.

I have rudimentary military training, and given that kind of firepower I think at least a few of them should have had some dino steaks and made it off the island! (bunch a dumb red shirts!)

[edit: in the face of a real t-rex, I might have pissed my pants and ran like a maniac too! :)]

The geek in me wants to believe raptors were aboard the ship and are now living in the sewers of that city- but the realist in me realizes it was just bad writing.

SPOILERS?!?!

Sheesh....

Anyway, the book was better than the movie. They totally hashed the plot of the book.

That said, I like dinos. (Dinos and sharks. Fun, fun, fun.... I don't think I've ever seen a movie involving either that I haven't liked, at least a little bit....)

Can anyone quote the part of JP (the book) where they said Malcolm died? Because I recall (having read the book in the last six weeks) that they asked about Malcolm ("Malcolm?"), and got a head shake in reply. I don't remember (but I probably forgot) them actually coming out and saying Malcolm died. The head shake could mean, "I don't think he's going to make it," rather than, "Sorry, he died before we could get him to help."

Anyway, that's just me spouting off. I wonder if Crichton will do a JP 3?

The Shadow Druids from the 2E Complete Druid book fit your description. Evil extremists who place no value in the lives of people, but will deliver pre-emptive strikes against those they consider threatening to the land, and will exact far more than an eye for an eye towards those who actually harm it. They make excellent villains.

Excellent PC's too.

I'm watching Jurassic Park II on FOX right now, and I'm just reminded of how much that photographer/eco-terrorist guy really peeved me off. The whole problem of the movie is to be blamed on him, simply because he'd rather get dozens of people killed off, instead of letting proper channels of protest and law handle his concerns. He lets all those dinos free because he doesn't want to see them in a zoo, but if not for him, dozens of people get torn to pieces, trampled, or eaten.

And he feels so happy about it. The movie never even shows the guy being punished for what he did. If I'd directed the movie, the guy would've been sued by InGen several dozen times over, until he was forced to live in a zoo himself just so he could get food to eat. Punk.

Hmm...I dont remember much of the film aside from some joy at seeing the hunters getting their arses kicked.

of course the book was better! :) ... I think the only things that the book and movie have in common is: dinosaurs, and a title.

LOL
Kinda surprises me how few people know the background of the stories here.... :(

I'm no expert, but just from memory, that whole T-Rex captured and put on ship bit was made up for the movie.

Thank god, too.

I just re-read the end of the Lost World book, and it was lame.
The people are stuck in the command center with raptors about to get in, when the girl notices that a network cable is coming into the computers, so she follows it (?!?) and they get out.

Then the 'bad guy' is shown being dropped off in the T-Rex nest after being grabbed earlier by the big T-Rex. He's dropped, then eaten piece by piece by the baby(ies?), as a learning lesson for the young T-Rex's.

SUCKED!

The T-Rex invading mainland was a master-stroke by Steven Spielberg, IMO, and was thought up late in shooting, from a vision in his head one night about seeing a boy come in to his Dad's room and telling them "There's a dinosaur outside my window."

More if you're interested....
