[OT] Kimchee Burgers

Every Chinese new year Taiwan has Pineapple Pies in lieu of apple pies at McDonalds, cuz the pineapple 'medallions' look like money and you give money people during that holiday.

One of my kiwi friends told they don't even serve apple pies down in NZ. Instead, they have peach or something.

Weird. Weird, I say! :)

kimchee burgers at mcdonalds are disgusting? like mcdonalds isn't normally disgusting anyway?

Kimchee is great, but it makes everything else in your fridge stink like kimchee.

One of natures ultimate combos: Kimchee + Soju

I had a Shogun Burger at a McDonald's in Hong Kong. It didn't do much for me (and I like teriyaki).

We don't have those anymore. But we -do- have sesame shakes!

BTW not -all- kimchee is spicy. There are endless varieties. There is Japanese kimchee and korean kimchee, and of course every person makes it a little bit different. Sorry, but I have a passion for kimchee.

I like kimchee! Never thought of having it on a burger, though. Just as a kind of garnish/side dish, like pickles.

In fact, I have an unopened jar of kimchee in the fridge -- the napa cabbage with hot pepper kind. And there's a package of ground beef in the freezer...hmmm...no buns, but some regular bread. Kimchee patty melt? Would cheese be out of the question?

I got to like kimchee just from eating at Korean restaurants, but must admit to not having considered all the culinary possibilities.

Kimchee Burgers... My god. That's brilliant. Why didn't I ever think of that? I'm never using mustard or ketchup again.

Though the one thing that hasn't been said that needs to be is that Kimchee is the Korean/Japanese answer to crack. Sure, you can rant about how disgusting it is the first time you try it. But try it again and see what happens. You'll be craving firmented cabbage and fish* in no time.

*My particular favorite. As has been mentioned, there are infinite varieties.

Just remember to keep mints handy.

The kimchee burgers sound good to me, but then I like food that you have to roll a fortitude check for. There's a Thai fermented fish paste that you literally have to hold your breath while you're adding it to a dish, but it really works in small quantities.

Now just to broaden the cultural perspective a bit, when I was growing up in a Pennsylvania Dutch area, we ate this stuff called meat pudding that was grey and greasy and had every part of the pig in it that you couldn't ever sell by itself, but it was wonderful. So I could imagine McDonald's selling that in Somerset, Pa.

Mc Tiki Aloo.... Masala Pizzas.... Ketchup that hadn't see a tomato but on the cover of the bottle.... Mc Vindaloo (goat)...

some of the fun of traveling to india. :)
