I love it so long as I don't think about what it is and how it's made while I'm eating it ... gag.
It's just pickled, what's nasty about the pickling process. Now cabage is just nasty unless you pickle it, sort of like the cucumber IMO, nasty as heck until it becomes a pickle.(which i'm now ruined for since I had real pickles in NY, and now in CA i'm stuck with vlasick and other ordinary pickles.
