[ot]Magnamund - Lone Wolf Series

On another note, these books would make an awesome campaign setting. Imagine the PC's being the sole survivors of the Kai Massacre, then having to travel to Holmgard to warn King Ulnar of the imminent Darklord invasion.... And NPC's like Banedon and Vonotar, magic items like the Sommerswerd.... Gives me goosebumps thinking about it. Maybe it could be Dragon's next mini campaign setting?

I love these books - Project Aon looks great.

As far as playing the Kai - why not just do a d20 game and NOT D&D specifically -- That way you don't have to worry about balancing the Kai with Fighters, Monks and Mages. I'm not sure how many clases you'd want to have byt there could be a Therumagician (sp?) class...

Myself and some other folks from the WOTC boards were actually working on a d20 conversion of the Lone Wolf world some months back, but that quickly fell apart. I have on my hard drive a Magnamund folder, which has some notes towards the d20 version - I created an Herbwarden class (like Madin Rendalim), and we collected a few versions of a Kai class, mine suffered from trying to be too close (as if there is such a thing) to the books. I believe we were going to make the Kai a 30-level class, to account for the ranks of Kai Lord, Magnakai, and Kai Grand Master. The Kai would be somewhat tricky to approximate as a 20-level class, is the problem.

We also decided that while we would create the option for nonhuman PCs (noodnics, Starn giants, Bor dwarves), we would keep them in a "DM-only" section, as the majority of Magnamund is humanocentric.

Thing that could make it easier is that I remember reading that Joe Dever created Magnamund for use with DnD (probably 1e). It would be interesting if we could get a hold of his original notes on the setting...

In any case, if we made a new conversion group (maybe shooting for a hosted setting page like the Middle Earth one), I'd be glad to take part. I'm a die-hard Lone Wolf junkie since the early 90s.

For Sommerlund and the Kai! :)

Well, looking at the Kai disciplines, Camouflage would be a bonus to Hide; Hunting, a bonus to Wilderness Lore, Sixth Sense would probably be a cross between Awareness feat, and the various Detect spells (evil being the most likely). Tracking would be the Track feat; Healing would be the ability to cast Cure Light (Minor?) Wounds on oneself each hour. Weaponskill could be like Weapon Focus; Mindshield and Mindblast would be psychic attack and defense forms; Animal Kinship would be Speak with Animals, and Mind Over Matter would be mage hand or telekenisis. Just my thoughts.

That's a great start. I think Animal Kinship might work better with animal empathy though - just a minor quibble. :)

When I first bought the D&D3e books, I looked over at my shelf and saw the Magnumund Campanion book or something. It describes alot of things about the world and has an AMAZING map of the lands... my D&D came came this close to being run in that setting. It was going to take place right after the massacre of the Kai, with the PCs fleeing the scene...

Man, Im so glad people out there still love this setting as much as I do.

I would love to be part of this. I have books 1-9, 11-12, 14, 17-22, the first World of Lone Wolf book and the Magnamund Companion. Magnamund would make an awesome D&D campaign, and as was stated earlier, Joe Dever created Magnamund as a D&D world (he in fact won The AD&D Championship in 1982).

Id be glad to help out, even if only in a small way. I have books 1 to 12 (US version) but that is it.

I have done a lot of searching on the web lately and found some cool Lone Wolf sites.

http://www.btinternet.com/~julie20/maps4.htm some maps

http://www.scsv.nevada.edu/~blakej1/study/tome/ This site is pretty cool, I linked directly to the Magnamund Tome section. Gives lot of information. Also has some stuff on the Giak language that is spoken a lot by the bad guys in the books (not to mention the Giaks themselves).
