Today, Monday, 16th December, is my thirtieth birthday.
Today, my mother died.
You can imagine that it was not the greatest of birthdays.
She had been ill for six years with the cancer which finally claimed her life. She was diagnosed with it just as she was about to set off on an author's tour to promote her first book: Negotiating China, a book about foreign businesses' experience in China. So, the book tour was cancelled, although the book did pretty well, especially in Hong Kong. It has even been translated into Japanese!
The last few months were quite hard on her. The end, when it did come, was somewhat sudden.
She is outlived by her parents, her husband, and her two children. She was 59 years old. Her name was Carolyn Blackman.
This post may appear odd to many; I wonder how it will appear to those who know me? Very well. This may be my method of dealing with grief. Let it be set down as that.
I doubt I will disappear entirely over the next few days or months; though I may be more quiet than is my wont. Or maybe not. Let that be as it may.
