[OT] Queen Mother Dies

My hope for the future of the royal family now that the Queen Mother has passed away:

Queen continues being queen for a few years until Prince William has consolidated himself a bit, then abdicate, ordering Prince Charles to let the throne go straight to William. Hopefully he'll prove a half-decent monarch, whereas I have no illusions about how Charles'd fare...

As a tourist attraction the monarchy bring in far more money each year than they spend, and they provide employment too From an economic standpoint, I say keep 'em

I think the direction this thread has taken is pretty sad.

The Royal Family, despite all its foibles and follies is a lasting symbol of Great Britain. The UK would be diminished without it.

If this is a condolences thread, all well and good. If you want to bash the monarchy, this is a poor place to do it.

Looks to me like the UK is already diminished when you got some of its citizens ready to flush their national sovereignity down the toilet to be a part of this moronic EU "superstate" (Superjoke is more like it. The only "super" thing about it is in regards to the sizes of EU officials' egos). Then again, the UK hasn't been the same since the end of World War II. What a waste.

Damn shame about the Queen Mother, though. From what I understand, unlike the antics of some of the younger members of the royal family, she conducted herself with grace and dignity. Hard to find, these days, someone born to wealth and priviledge who ISN'T a spoiled, smug, morally bankrupt individual with undeserved notions of superiority over the "peasantry". Her passing is a deep loss.

I am truly saddened. I loved the queen mum. She was out there and happy doing it all the way up to her death. I was cheering for her ever since I heard that she had fallen "viewing horses". For god sakes we should give this women a medal! The current queen on the other hand I can't stand.

Took the throne in 1900 I believe....wow. I'll miss you queen mum
