Are all of you CA folks and your families ok after the terrible accident today in Santa Monica?

*sorry, I wasn't sure if there were too many OT's but I worry, and I know others do too...

To reassure folks, California is large. San Diego County is bigger than the state of Rhode Island. Inyo County is bigger than the states of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Conneticut combined. So you needn't worry about Californians as a whole. People from the Los Angeles metropolitan area who frequent farmers markets on the other hand.

Haven't heard if any more have died. I hope all the injured pull through, but the odds are some won't. A car is a deadly weapon.

So be alert when you cross the street, and if in doubt about how fast that fellow is going, wait till he passes to cross.

I've been hit by a car before.

Sometimes, all the looking in the world doesn't stop it. Person in the car was speeding / I was on a skateboard. I survived with very few long lasting problems (I still have problems with my foot once in a while).

It's a terrible thing. I heard a two year old baby died. I guess the driver had some sort of medical condition. It's just very sad. I hope none of us ENworlders were involved.

It's been a bad day for car crashes here in California. 580, which runs east/west between the bay area and the Central Valley (Stockton/Modesto) was also completely shut down for most of the day due to a huge accident. I don't have the details though.

Condolences to any ENWorlders who lost someone today...

But it ain't that large... I often spend my lunchtime on wednesdays in that very Farmer's Market, as do many of the people I work with.

But luckily, today I had a hankering for a hamburger, and as I was driving back to my office, I wondered what all the sirens and helicopters were about.

Scary stuff, especially since it seems like it was just a random accident.

just thought I'd poke my head in and let everyone know you haven't gotten rid of me yet.. :D:D:D

As for the driver having medical problems, that's being investigated. If he had a medical condition he shouldn't have been behind the wheel. But, I'll just leave that for another topic.

I hope that everyone here is alright and I know I'll be praying for those who are injured and the families of those who lost someone.

All things considering, this could have been a lot worse. Only 8 people died when he was driving down a busy market for 3 blocks. It could have been *much* worse.
