Re: Two Towers
I press one key on that f*ing keyboard, I don't even know which one, and it erases all my answers. Oh the joy.

I completely agree with Ruleslawyer in every respect. In the book, Faramir like Galadrial were tested by the ring and win out in the end. The charisma, inner strength, moral convictions, and a sense of Faramir's great leadership, are missed completely in this movie. He is the complete opposite of Boramir his brother and this is certainly lost in the movie.
The scene with Galadriel in the first movie was so heavy handed that it... suspended my suspension of disbielief. I found it handled out much better here, thanks to a very good actor: he doesn't get much screen time, but he uses it darn well. You can see the struggle in his eyes, the temptation, the pride.

The Ents were overlooked in this movie almost completely, except for the battle at the end. The relationship with Treebeard, Marry and Pipin should have been developed a little better along with the Ent drink (which I can't remember) and the strength of Treebeard (Fangorn) and the rest of his ents…
There could have been a bigger focus on their battle, above all since they were attacking Sarumane's own stronghold, but hardly more talking: it would have broken the very fast pace of the movie. Peter Jackson really did make the best out of a mere 3 hours.

Gimli and Legolas were..., well good but ..... Sometimes I think they were in the scene just to get cheers...come on surfing down the stairs on a shield..
That was the second burst of cheers during the movie, the first one having occured when... Legolas got up on Gimli's horse. It may have been a tad too much, just as they may have made fun of Gimli a tad too often.

Then stabbing yet another orc in the next with an arrow. I think I will get queasy if Leagolas does that again in The Return of the King. Then the whole dwarf tossing thing was sort of funny in the first one but kind of silly now...Just have Gimli make a mad rush in the fray and do what he does best... no cheesy lines please...
Gimli asking to be tossed is funny, in itself, and a good "remember the first movie" part. Only it comes after much "dwarves are short and clumsy" funny scenes, so... :/

The battle at helms deep to me would have been much richer if the Ents had truly taken a more active role like in the books.
Hm. Yeah, agreed.

Eowyn was played beautifully; the character development was played out much better than the book did. I absolutely can't wait to see the Beautiful Eowyn Shield maiden of Rohan, in action in The Return of the King... She will be awesome. If Peter didn't change that too...
The friend I was with, who loved the character in the book, loved the way she was acted in the movie and, just as you do, hopes to see her in action again in ROTK. And yes, I do agree, she's very well played.

I even like Arwyn's character, and the romantic problems between elf and man. The movie explains it much better than the books ever do. But Tolkien was not a very good romantic novelist, so I think Peter has done a great job here...
The scene with Arwen looking over an old, a dying, a dead Aragorn, then his tomb, was great. The flow of time and the sadness were rendered incredibly well, above all considering how little screen time is used.
