[OT] Star Wars Ep 4-6 on DVD and for sale already?

Is this the same control freak that let someone else write and direct both Empire and Jedi?
Lucas may have had a little help, but he has written every Star Wars movie, don't let anyone tell you differently. As for the directing he was obviously more willing to share 20 years ago and let others help him with his vision. I'm not a big fan of his directing style and I really wish he would let someone else direct Episode 3. But that's beside the point. He was involved in all the important aspects of both those films.

I should add that he has become more of a control freak over the years and listens to others less and less. I still have tremendous respect for him and Star Wars.

Dragging his feet

I'm led to believe that George Lucas is indeed dragging his feet on releasing the DVDs.

I love the original 4 movies (4-5-6)-- Episode 1 and 2 are just OKAY in my book --and love to see the movie on a widescreen. Unlike a lot of people I do enjoy the Special Edition version (I have the gold Special Edition boxed set).

On another note, are they going to release another Indiana Jones movie before Harrison Ford or Lucas/Spielberg dies of old age?

Really, what does Lucas need to do. They have already done crap loads of how each movie was made and has all of the interviews. He did it all for VHS, I just want the movies. He may not realize it, but many of us just like the movies and would like to watch them without all the ware and tare our old tapes have. I don't care to here him babble about the movies or the movie experience.

It's a no-win situation for Lucas. If he releases a bare-bones DVD with just the movies just to get them out there, when he releases the DVDs with extras he gets slammed for double-dipping. If he waits people get impatient. He can't win.

Oh man, I gotta get that set. I think I'll put an order in once I get back from GenCon, assuming I haven't blown all my vacation cash by Sunday afternoon.

Two years ago, I might have had sympathy for him.

But the simple fact is, He's dragging his feet. I don't care *why*, honestly I don't. DVDs just aren't that hard to produce, nor is there that much he needs to be involved in. I don't care about his control issues, or anything of the sort.

Fact: The DVDs could have been out long ago
Fact: The DVDs aren't out.
Fact: By all known information, the DVDs will not be out anytime soon.

The only conclusion I can come to is that he is dragging his feet.

Damn, man. You act as if you have been personally slighted by Lucas.

I'm more than willing to wait for whatever he has in store for the DVDs. You don't know what he has planned (if anything) for them and you don't know that folks aren't working on them right now - doing things like getting them for the format, touching them up and the like. I don't care if they are or not. Sure, I'd like them now but everything happens for a reason. If you want to think that the reason is because he doesn't care, he's "dragging his feet" or something like that, so be it. I see no reason to dwell in the negative.

I'd rather have him concentrate on Episode 3 than worry about the original trilogy for now. When it's out and the DVD is out then I'll start expecting the original trilogy soon after. You can always go ahead and watch your tapes or buy the movies from the above link if you need them right now. He is under no obligation to rush things - not for you, for me or for anyone. He's already stated why he's not doing them now, if that isn't good enough then there isn't anything else anyone can do to make you happy.

Umm, he didn't write Empire Strikes Back. He is credited with the story idea, but the actual script was not his.

A big part of these not being released goes back to the very beginning of DVDs. There was a battle between having DVDs purchased give the customer unlimited viewing of the movie, or allow them to watch it X amount of times and then pay per view after the alloted slots. Lucas and Fox wanted to run the Pay per view version and did not originally release any of the movies they had rights to. Once this battle was decided (by consumers buying DVDs) then all of the studios opened their doors. I imagine by the time this happened Lucas had already redone the original movies and was working on the new ones.

*sigh* Okay, he didn't write the screenplay for Empire. However, without him the movie simply doesn't get made. He wrote the story which made the screenplay possible and he was the excutive producer which means that he made all the important decisions outside of the feel of the film which the director is responsible for.

My point was that it is his universe and his story to tell. The movies even without him in the director's chair consumed his life for those 6 years. So with directing and doing all those things on the prequels he hasn't the time he wishes to devote to producing the DVDs that he wants to make.
