[OT]Teh Aussies Have Arrived!!!

First Post
Just over an hour ago, Australia played a "friendly" against mother England. Of course since we're ranked 50th in the world (mostly due to a lack of regular quality opposition, as well as European clubs forbidding our boys from wearing the green and gold), people were tipping a no-contest against the 8th ranked Poms.

Fulltime?

3-1 Australia, baby!!!

Is there any sport we don't play well?!? I guess there's always ice-hockey, but I've got the feeling it'll be a cold day in Queensland before we're ever any good at that.

And how does England feel to have lost a football match to a nation that calls the game "soccer"? :D

*cough* American Football *cough*
The modern day gladiatorial combat!

To be a good sport, congrats to the Aussie team in beating poor old England. :D

American football?!?!?

Dude, we've had a couple of pros in the NFL and we don't even play the game (we have a league here, but it's comprised of expat-Americans and guys who couldn't make the rugby league team).

That said, we have a tonne of guys over here who play football without helmets and pads who would make dynamite linebackers and safeties.

Some of the "tackling" I see on NFL fields is embarassing.

But as for a nation being good at a sport, I guess it just comes down to interest. While I personally think American football is a brilliant game, the majority of Aussies (ignorantly) deride it as being played by a bunch of overweight sissies wrapped in plastic and cotton wool, with 5 second bursts of action punctuated by 40 second rest breaks.

Anyways, even though my favourite game is rugby league, it's pretty clear that football (soccer) is the only world sport, and will become more so, on my continent, if not on yours as well.

MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Imagine the flak young Sven is going to cop. I just heard it now so off I go to a newswire to find out all about it...

Greetings!

Hey there Snoweel! Well, Aussies are certainly good at many sports because I think they embrace rugged, violent, masculine sports. They are up for anything dangerous, rugged, and violent!:)

Never fear, though, rugby is popular in America as well. Indeed, it is not as popular as professional football, but both in universities and in the military, padless football/rugby is quite popular.:)

Keep up the good work!

Go Aussies!:)

Semper Fidelis,

SHARK

Sorry, but the Americans beat Australia to it. :)

It was a very good result for Australia, nonetheless. They played all over England in the first half. Encouraging signs from the English youngsters in the second half, though.

Soccer is truly the only "world game" among the team sports. There's no other team sport in the world where a match between the #8 side and the #50 side would even be competitive, let alone where the #50 side could win.

And let's not forget that overnight, China (#64) held Brazil (#1) to a draw. Find me another sport where that could happen :)

It's soccer! Every other match is a 0-0 draw! Occasionally they'll have a high-scoring game that ends up as 2-1 or so... *yawn*

Sven is having a very bad day I hear. Wouldn't be surprised if he is replaced some time soon. I hope he stays on and he's been very popular but the British media is a harsh mistress so I'm not too optimistic. It was very strange tactics to swap the entire 11 players at half-time, don't you think?

Aussie R00ls! :D
