[OT] To All Who Know Me ... Sad News

AB, I don't know of anything that hasn't already been said, but just the same:

I'm sorry to say that I don't know you personally, and I haven't interacted with you much on these boards (I'm a dyed-in-the-wool lurker)... but I've always enjoyed reading your posts, and I respect you very much.

This is a tough challenge to face, but I know that you're a strong person. You'll survive and thrive. It's OK to be scared... any sane human being would be... Just know that you aren't alone. Even us lurkers care :)

Personal story: one of my partner's close friends contracted HIV the "first time" when he was in college. That was almost 10 years ago. He's living in Oregon with his partner of 9 years, their son, and he recently passed the bar exam. Having HIV doesn't mean you can't live and have a life.

KEEP LIVING!

You're in my thoughts.

Hey AB

HIV/AIDS is one of the things which makes me wish spells like Heal, Wish and Miracle existed in the real world. AB, I've enjoyed reading many of your posts over the years and you strike me as guy who has always managed to "soldier on," in tough times. My prayers are with you for the strength to manage your illness. And I'll keep my fingers crossed for your fiance.

Mishakal's blessings upon you,

Ogre Mage

I meant to post much earlier, but I was going through some stuff myself and really couldn't think of what to say. When I first read your post, I kept going, "Wow, I can't believe he has HIV," for a few days... same as I would've been saying about something BIG happening to a close friend or relative. Just like others have said, things like this make you realize how close you feel to a lot the people on ENWorld.
The only real bit of advice I have is to make sure you take your meds correctly. My ex used to be involved with AIDS research data and he said a big problem was with people not taking their meds like they're supposed to. So, even if the meds are gross tasting;), unless they have absolutely horrible side effects, take them religiously. That and try to think good thoughts. Take care.

Its shocking to hear something like this, but as a lot of people have said; every second you stay alive (and with todays medical care, there will be many seconds for you ;) ) the cure for HIV and AIDS is a second closer. I would be surprised if they didnt find the cure for this disease in your lifetime if you play your cards right.

And remember, whatever happens, the mortality rate for everyone is 100% in the end. Be it AIDS or old age, we all go the same way. The difference is that you are forced to confront the fact earlier then most people.

Just live your life as you usual, and thank God for what you have got; a lot of friends, a supportive community, a wonderful boyfriend and a mother that loves you. In that, you are a lucky man, and no disease in the world can take that from you.

I wont know my CD4s till Tuesday or Wednesday and Randy and I had a LONG talk last night.

Suffice it to say, I was very comforted and loved last night after what he said.
