[OT] What comic book characters/worlds have made it into your game?

I am, simply, The Tick ;)
SPOON!

One of my first characters was named after the Phoenix, but otherwise had no relation. I played a psychic warrior based on Psylocke. That's it though.

* A paladin known as "The Avenger," armed with a hammer of thunderbolts, a round shield that can be thrown (& returns), and dressed in magical, red & gold armor. Has fought an evil, green & grey armor-clad, tyrannical wizard who hides his disfigured face behind a mask.

Those are all good, AFGNCAAP, but this one just takes the cake! :)

I was thinking "who are these people who use _comic books_ in their games?!"

Then I remembered a ran a fantasy city scenario with crime boss Carl Grissom, his deputy Laughing Jack and Jack's blonde moll, all based on characters from the Batman movie (as played by Jack Palance, Jack Nicholson & Jerry Hall) - and Laughing Jack was of course The Joker. He made a great villain AIR - 8th level thief. :)

An issue of Willingham's _Elementals_ had a battle between a flying ship crewed by green minotaurs and jet-powered flying sharks, which I lifted pretty much entire for one encounter.

Stan Sakai's _Usagi Yojimbo_. Ignore for the moment the fact that the characters are all funny animals. The crunchy bits of detail on the weapons, armour, architecture, clothing, and society are a wonderful reference for anyone playing/DMing in a samurai setting. Even for a non-Oriental setting there are a LOT of potential plot ideas - the old woman who begs the PCs to slay her husband, whose greed and anger have caused him to become a demon; the supernaturally-skilled warrior who claims to have been sent by the gods to punish evildoers - and defines "evil" as anyone who isn't totally, pure good; the war between a clan of bat-ninja and a clan of cat-ninja; the theft of a long-dead hero's sword from a holy shrine threatens to spark a civil war; a duellist of legendary skill wants to retire but is constantly plagued by young challengers wishing to gain fame by slaying him; and many more.
