As one of the few Dutchman here:

The most popular beer in the Netherlands is probably Heineken

My favourite beer from holland is Grolsch (ever heard of that?)

My all time favourite is..... Budweiser!! Damn that's just a mighty good piece of craftmanship that beer is....too bad it's kinda expensive here in Holland.

Grz

Grolsch? Certainly! It is quite tasty.

Heineken and Newcastle Brown Ale are two popular beers, mentioned here, that are also widely available in America.

I'm most curious about Victoria Bitters now that I know the truth about Fosters.

When I was in the Philippines they recommended that we not drink Budweiser. Supposedly it contained formaldehyde as preservative. The formaldehyde would give you headaches if you weren't accustomed to it. It was said it was necessary because the bud was imported via ships, which took months.

Sounds like your source has a problem with Anheuser-Busch, to me.

There is no formaldehyde in Budweiser, domestic or abroad, nor has there ever been. Also, for fresh Bud to reach the Philippines from its closest brewery takes approximately seven days.

While VB is definately a better beer than fosters, and probably the most widely drunk in australia, it mainly achieves this by virtue of being cheap. If you're going to explore Australian beers, there's a lot better options to start with.

1. bud,coors or something

2. Sudwurks(very local to sac area 2 resturaunts beer in a few stores) More wide spread, I'm kinda fond of Anchor Steam.

3. Varies to the flavor I'm going for, I generally match my cuisine with my beer. Eating Chinese Tsingto(sp), mexican Dos Equis, I know there isa japanese beer I kinda like, german tons I like, french sorry I've only had crap french beers and i'm not fond of there food either, thai(I'll have to try the thai beer mentioned somewhere above) etc.

Darraketh - by your continued presence on this thread, I'm dubbing you "ENWorld's most likely alcoholic"

It's great to see the Asian beers finally getting mentioned here. Most of the Asian beer I have tried has been very good, though IMHO they taste very similar - clean and crisp ( Sapporo- Kirin -Tsing Tsou - Singha )

FYI - they add additional formaldehyde for beer sold in areas where refrigeration may be an issue, like Vietnam

My favorite Asian beer is a little different than those mentioned above - "Beer Chang" - another beer from Thailand, this one has more taste and I believe it has a few %'s more alcohol too...

My favorite domestic: 3 way Tie between Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam ( san Francisco ) and Red Hook's ESB. When I'm already wasted and drinking is more a function of price than taste, I prefer Coors or MGD. ( OK - maybe I'M the alcoholic
;)

My favorite Non UK european beer: Grolsch - those rubber stoppers are WAY cool huh?

Favorite UK beer: Guiness - a great drinking experience.

I don`t which beer is best selling in Czech Republic, but three biggest are: Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus and Radegast.

I prefer Radegast and than our local beer Ostravar. :D

Yam, Pilsner Urquell is really good, sad that I nearly forgot that (hmm, perhaps because I got totally drunk from it when I was in the Czech Republic ;) ). I've seen Pilsner Urquell in a bar in Santa Barbara, quite surprising.
