[OT] White Wolf's Exalted? Is this a good or bad product?

Exalted is an AWESOME one book game. If you must expand your Exalted collection, go for Exalted: The Dragon Blooded first, The Book of Three Circles second, and the rest of the fatsplats (Exalted: The Sidereals, Exalted: The Lunars, Exalted: The Abbyssals, and soon to come Exalted Players Guide and Graceful Wicked Masques) after that. Thin splats and setting books aren't neccessary, but are good reads and chock full of nice ideas.

I believe someone once said that, even with all the supplements, Exalted doesn't have power creep.

It has coolness creep.

Adventures: There are kinda published adventures, but mostly no. There's Runes of Rathess, which is a setting segment with a built in adventure, but aside from that none others that I can think of.

Oh, and be warned: Fights in exalted, although quite exhillarating, take hours.

Hope that helps you,

It's my favorite RPG, hands down. For reviews, check out rpg.net, there are a lot of Exalted fans on their forums too.

It's amazingly cool, especially the setting (which is pretty integral to the game). But, if you don't like games where the characters are over-the-top superheroes, Exalted won't be for you.

Check out rpg.net, there are reviews that have actually taken the time to explain what the game is about, whereas I have to leave for class five minutes ago.

I echo the recommendation of hitting up Exalted&Buffy.net for any and all of your Exalted questions, needs and desires.

I own all the main books, save Lunars, plus other essentials like Scavenger Sons, the Book of Three Circles and even that Storyteller's Companion book. I've not yet had the chance to play or run the game, though; but this is mainly due to the fact that there's only one person in my limited environment that I'd think could actually play Exalted and understand its atmosphere and feeling.

Despite my (temporary!) inability to play Exalted, I don't regret the purchase of these fine products.

As for adventures, don't forget the Tomb of Five Corners, which has quickstart rules, pregenerated characters, and is free!

Excited? Good, because I don't have the link...maybe someone else does?

Just to echo TB, in the exalted game a friend of mine is in, the first session was the newly acquainted PC's vs an army. The army got trounced. I heard something about burning corpses tied to a tree used as a projectile...

Exalted is great for certain games -- "Wire Fu" and certain times of anime/manga. It is alright for general fantasy, but overall the feel is very Asian, just as D&D has a general European flavour to it, filtered through sci fi and Lovecraft.

Exalted as not the Be All And End All of games, any more than D20 is, but it is good for what it is designed for. If you want a strong anime feel to your games, it is pretty near perfect. If not, it will not be your cuppa.

Exactly what I suspected--which simply means we all have differing tastes. I actually prefer a hefty dose of said Lovecraft, as well as some dark Elric/Conan nuances.

I've watched some anime, and it's cool, can be VERY cool--but I'm not running out to exchange all my Silence of the Lambs DVDs for ___(insert anime title here)____.

I am not a fan of anime (other than the occasional Tenchi Muyo episode :D) and I found it very easy to downplay or ignore the few areas where that "feel" is in the game.

I basically ran it like Glorantha on steroids...heavily Mythology based heroes of legend..I found the anime/asian like parts easy to ignore.

Some of the latter splats and whatnot defintely added more of an anime/asian feel (the "mecha/armor" especially which I believe was in Scavenger Seas or the Exalted ST guide)...the core book other than the art has very little asian "feel"..to me at least...

It's a great read, and IMO easy to tailor the setting to whatever style of play you like. :D
