[OT] Who are YOU and what do you DO?

Hi,
I'm Argent. I'm your typical fat balding middle aged white guy/gamer geek.

Now for the me that is underneath... I'm 40 years old and have been gaming since I was 16. I work by day as a customer service representitive for AARP Healthcare. By night I'm a holistic healer, psychic reader. I have also seen a UFO. I have spoken to "dead People" all my life. I'm a Pagan and have practiced Shamanism and totemic magics for about 20 years now. I'm a Reike Master and slowly learning Massage. I'm also openly gay and have been living with my partner John for almost 10 years now.

Likes and dislikes:
Humorless people drive me nuts.
Self important people drive me nuts.
Running around in the woods naked... Love it.
Drumming around a campfire... adore it.
Insect bites on my exposed posterior... Hate it.

Good luck on the art. I hope you aren't aspiring to be an rpg illustrator, probably one of the shakiest art jobs out there. I know people who moved to the Seattle area when working as WotC staff that were cut and left with a shaky situation, many moving back to where they had started from. Not too many companies pay that well in the rpg arena, either. Art sells products, but many companies (a portion through their situations) cannot or will not pay that well.

Actually, I'm looking into the closest thing I can find to a 'stable' job in art...other than Graphic Design I mean...teaching. Never thought I'd want to teach anyone anything, but the more I think about it the more I like the idea. Its a horrible day when you wake up and realize you've become one(or both) of your parents. :D

You will find that there is a lot of money to be made in art. Much more than most 9-5 jobs, in fact. Mainstream art commands big bucks, and a lot of flexibility. Commercial art and gallery runs make a lot of money as well. I know people who have done ccg art from the beginning (I have not painted a card, but was an art director for a ccg game) and have gotten $30,000 royalty checks. The beauty of art is not necessarily the person's ability, but the ability to find the right opprotunity.

I have been married 10 years and have two kids, ages 6 and 5, and a cat, age approx. 12. I work as a middle school history teacher in an inner-city Catholic school, where I was made an honorary Mexican by my students six years ago.

I supplement my income with freelance d20 writing assignments, mostly with Fantasy Flight Games.

I am dedicated to teaching people to not fear the funk, and I am the only white man I know who can sing along with Curtis Mayfield, the O'Jays, the Chi-Lites, and Parliament (I gots my mothership connection!).

I am not the lord of the dance, but I can do a mean foxtrot.

Higher-education-wise, I got carried away: history, English, philosophy, and theology.

Interesting trivia: Former Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork accused me of being a dupe of the liberal media in written response to criticism I leveled against his off-hand defense of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in a letter to the editor published in First Things.

Oh yeah: veteran of the U.S. Army. 8 years. Entered active duty July 1985 at the age of 17.

Let’s see I am a 30-year-old male who has been gaming since he was 10. I live in Texas and have been married to my wonderful wife going on 6 years in August.

I work in the QA department of a truck permitting company testing program changes without fully understanding what the programs are supposed to be doing.

I have BA in psychology from UNT in Denton, and I do think about taking up teaching in the future.

I read gaming books, computer books, history books, and fantasy books for fun.

My wife calls me the gaming nerd, because I tend to know the rules by memory for any RPG that our group plays.

I am currently playing Buzz, a windling thief, in an Earthdawn game, and we will probably be starting a 3.5 game in the next couple of weeks.

Let's see... I'm a 38 year old male, of Irish/German descent.

I first heard about D&D in a review in Games Magazine around 1979/1980. I'm in two gaming groups. One group is made of old friends, and we play a variety of systems, occasionally highly house-ruled D&D3e (but currently Rifts). The other group started when 3e came out. I DM most of the time in this group. We'll be converting to 3.5 when I get back from GenCon.

I'm a middle school teacher, teaching computers and coaching Science Olympiad. I started out my adult life expecting to be a computer programmer, but found the typical avenues of that career to be too boring. Now, I get to play with Lego robots and build Rube Goldberg machines! :D

As for my social life, I suppose I could be the poster child for the gamer stereotype - chubby, balding with a pony-tail, and no girl friend. However, I do bathe regularly! Too shy for my own good, I guess.

But, I love my hobbies, love my job, so probably shouldn't complain.

Hey, 18 years of age, Pharm D degree, second year in good ol beantown. Big time lurker, small-time poster. Got into D&D when a bunch of my close friends started dissapearing every saturday and I found out where they went. I'm a pun-cracker for lame setups in gaming when it occurs. :-D

I'm a 17 year old slacker, about to enter my senior year of high school. I reside in Lubbock, TX, and live in two houses, one is inhabited by my mother and stepfather, and the other is inhabited by my two older brothers. I'm somewhere between half and three-fourths Hispanic, I'm not 100% sure. I'm also agnostic (being my mom is a Protestant, my real dad is Baptist, my stepdad is Catholic, my oldest brother is Satanist, and my other brother, I think, is a Freemason), and I try to get along with everybody.
My interests include independent movies and music, psychology, writing, drawing, ghosts, animation, entertainment production, video games, and, of course, RPGs. My favorite musical artists include Mike Patton (obviously), Mike Oldfield, Faith No More, Tomahawk, Queens of the Stone Age, The Melvins, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, Nathaniel Merriweather Presents Lovage, At the Drive-In, Sparta, The Mars Volta, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Buckethead, Deftones, Mondo Generator, Team Sleep, and Nobuo Uematsu. Other favorites include The Simpsons, Futurama, Cowboy Bebop, Family Guy, Home Movies, Ren & Stimpy, Adult Swim (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman, Space Ghost Coast to Coast), Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Invader Zim, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed, Edd, & Eddy, Trainspotting, Fight Club, Requiem For A Dream, Magnolia, Clerks, Snatch, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Lucky Sky Diamond (Guinea Pig movie, alternative version's name: Blood Splatter On White Wall), Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Final Fantasy VII through X, Resident Evil (remake), Resident Evil 2, Ms. Pac-Man, Brave Fencer Musashi, Metroid (Prime and Fusion), Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill 2, Wizards (Ralph Bakshi film), and Ranma 1/2.
I hope to someday become a filmmaker, an animator, and a psychologist. I also want to help in the fight to end homelessness for children. Right now, I'm working towards those goals, gaining experience in media production and psychology (through Broadcasting classes and such).
Anyways, that's pretty much it.

Cheers!

Hey, Lubbock's a nice place! My dad recently took a job as a Dean at TTU, a step up from the position he had at TAMU. I've only been there once (last Christmas) but I thought the place had real style. My brother and his wife just moved there too, incidentally.
