[OT] Who are YOU and what do you DO?

40ish Health Administrator living in southern New Hampshire. Married with three children. Kriskrafts and I own an old farm house that used to be an Inn. We have a few acres of land, which we use to raise a small flock of sheep. We also make our own maple syrup. I am also currently working on a Doctorate and Kriskrafts is working towards a Master's degree.

Our weekly gaming group is now in its 22nd consecutive year. Prior to having our 3rd child we were very active with New England gaming conventions, and were RPGA Coordinators for several years. That is where we met PirateCat and KidCthulhu, who were the ones who told us about ENWorld.

I'm a 22year old university student studying linguistics and minoring in East Asian Civilization. I'm currently in Japan doing and internship, teaching middle school and high school students in an English academic summer camp.

Hi, my name is Malcolm and I'm an alcoh...

wait, wrong forum...

:D

I'm 28 years old and current work for a government authority where I spent my days profiling electronic and mail-based scams targeting people in my state (as well as a variety of other tasks)... this isn't necessarily as interesting as one might think, although it does have its moments...

I live with my g/f of 3.5 years and look forward to spending the rest of my days with her (if all goes as planned)...

other interesting (or not) details...
*I've been gaming since I was 14... I started with WHFRP, and a variety of Palladium games, then took the plunge into 2nd Ed AD&D with a new group about 8 years ago and finally into our beloved 3rd Ed as soon as it hit the shelves of my local gaming store...
*I'm a goth (with leanings towards the cyber and fetish looks more than uber-goth)...
*I'm a competitive fencer, specialising in foil & sabre... I'm ranked 22nd in foil in Australia at the moment and hope to push that up closer to 15th at the National Championships later on this year...
*I got my first tattoo in April last year and I'm trying desperately to stave off the desperation to get my next one... ;)

Amazing Variety...

Heck, I will play...

40-year old (41 in September) male, married 4 years to a vehemently non-gaming spouse and proud father of the cutest 6-month old boy around. Also have 2 cats (Smudge and Stumpy) and a big yellow lab (Abbey). Born in California, but have lived all over the US (Illinois, Indiana, Oregon, Florida, Virginia, New York, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Maryland). I have visited 46 of the 50 United States (N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Wyoming and Alaska left).

Recieved my undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1985 (BS in Engineering + a history major). Served 5.5 years on active duty as an armor officer (primarily in the German town of Friedberg...just N/E of Frankfurt-am-Main). Did a 7-year stint in pharmaceutical sales before switching to financial planning in the mid-1990s. Currently a Certified Financial Planner running my own financial planning company. As of Monday, 8/4, I will also be the Deputy Director of Financial Planning for a major non-profit organization supporting current and retired military officers in the US.

Have been an avid boardgamer for as long as I can remember, started playing Avalon Hill wargames in the mid-1970s (Tactics II, anyone) and was introduced to the D&D Basic set my plebe year at West Point (1981) by a friend who promptly lost interest. Been playing ever since, with a few diversions into GURPs, Palladium and MERP.

My current gaming group took a baby-enforced break starting in November 2002 and we just started playing again in June. I became hooked on the NWN PW of Narfell during those early sleepless baby nights and spend far too many hours playing these days (come on by Narfell and look for Arashika the half-orc ;))!

I have been around the ENBoards for over 3 years, although I have been mainly lurking since my son was born. My neglected SH (see sig) is in bad need of an update, but some die hard readers still give me the courtesy "bump" from time to time (thanks Lela and Darklone, the checks are in the mail).

Alright, fine.

I'm 32, getting married (again) in December to the woman I should have married the first time, and share space with two cats, one a 22lb tubbo named Moses.

I have a master's degree in molecular biology and work as a research scientist in a (very) prestigious research institute in Kansas City. I add about 1/4 cup honey to just about everything I bake. I make a kick-@$$ banana bread loaf.

I stopped collecting DVDs when my gf asked me to marry her (see above) so I could save some dough, though I still buy hardback copies of my favorite books. I nearly cried the day I heard Roger Zelazny died. I stopped reading WoT around book #4.

I too, despise realtiy television. Nor do I care for beer. I enjoy a good hard cider, and order a rum & coke when ciders aren't available.

My connection to D&D? I bought THE FIRST COPY of the 3.0 PHB that arrived in whatever that coastal Florida town was in which I was vacationing at the time. Took me 1.5 hrs to get to the LGS from my beach-front hotel. Been immersed ever since, and now I write/edit for a "major player" in the independent d20 publishing industry.

I write letters to my little sister (16yrs old, lives in GA w/ our dad) once a week. I've been through Alpha, and intend to lead a group next time around. My wife-to-be wants to be a rural doctor once she's finished with school, which will mean a career change for me.

I'm thinking about running a coffee shop/used book store. I'll carry RPGs and games, of course.

I'm 28 years old and a consultant on radiation protection in Canada.

I like long walks on the beach and pina colla...NO WAIT...wrong forum...

I'm an avid reader and have more than just a passing curiosity in mythology, ancient history, physics, astronomy and philosophy.

I just recently was married and am wishing that I was back in Mexico on my honeymoon than sitting at work. ;)

This is your life...

Andy Shockney

31, white, male, Columbus, Ohio, USA, married (7 years) and we have a 20 month old daughter. : )

Work: Currently a Call Center Manager with CheckFree Corporation, formerly a banker for 9 years at Huntington National Bank (7 years call center, 2 years regulatory manager)

Education: Ashland High School, Ashland, OH;
Business Admin/Jounalism Degree from Ashland University
Masters in Business Administration from Capital University

Games: Played DnD since the red box. Tried about every game out there, the only thing that got played seriously besides DnD is Champions/Marvel SuperHeroes, Heroclix, and Magic.

I LOVE comics. Owned thousands and thousands. Also have a passion for books on management and leadership.

I LOVE Football, and all aspects of Fantasy Football.

Started a game company with one of my good friends: www.myrik.net.

I've gamed with the same group of friends since my freshman year of high school. We now all have children, and can only eek out one day a month for an all day game-fest!

I've attended Origins for the last five years, Neovention and GenCon throughout the 90's.

Interesting tidbits: My uncle is a former member of parliament in the UK, and I've starred on a couple of local radio commercials.

Very interesting thread. Great read! Keep it going!

I just turned 18 last month. Live in the suburbs of Montreal up in the French part of Canada (Québec). My final year of CEGEP will be starting in 3 short weeks (it's basically the first year of college for everybody else). Studying sciences with a focus on organic chemistry and biology as I'm planning to be a pediatrician. Made it to the Dean's List last semester with an overall average of 95.57% (no course under 90%) and even managed to get 100% in my English class (teacher is easy + gave bonus marks).

I like reading fantasy/sci-fi fiction and "the classics". If you ask me to write a literary essay on something, expect me to write much more than what you had expected (final essay of the semester was sposed to be 1000, mine was about 3300 :) ). Before you ask, I don't write a bunch of bs and if I didn't want to be a pediatrician I'd probably focus on English and become a teacher.

I volounteer as a patient feeder at the local hospital, am part of my CEGEP's student government, am a horrible public speaker. I attempt to find part time jobs for my summer break and usually do not succeed, I've worked at KFC, want to know the secret to the chicken? It's marinated and the ingredients in the flour include "spices" (and no, the package does not specify what spices). I am a soccer referee and will be suspended for having lost my temper and told some idiot players to "Shut the f*%^ up!".

Been RPing since grade 6. The group converted to 3E as soon as it came out and since then I haven't played a spellcaster (with the exception of Mucknuggle the Gnomish Rock n Roll Bard). My first ever Gnomish character, a Tinker Gnome fighter/illusionist earned me the nickname Mucknuggle because the DM didn't like his name (Billybo Babble Bumblehound for short). It's stuck with me ever since and no, I do not have the email mucknuggle@hotmail.com, somebody else stole it from me! Mucknuggle is now my internet alias.

I watch TONS of anime and read lots of manga. Japanese console RPGs are the best videogames (with 2d fighters coming a close second) and I wish that there was a Final Fantasy VI anime as it is the best one.

I run a Mutants and Masterminds game, but am a sucky GM as I can't think of good stories... My Wheel of Time game got canned when one of my friends decided to play a cannibal and started attempting to eat people in combat. I NEED to find a Rokugan/Oriental Adventures RPG group to play with. I like RPing online in chat rooms, if you want a player, send me a message, I'll play almost anything.

I have yet to have a g/f as the only 2 that I've ever wanted to go out with began going out with one of my closest friends (the same guy).

Babylon 5 is the BEST sci-fi show ever. Voyager is a good Trek and Dragonlance owns all other settings. The Fires of Heaven (WoT book 5) is the worst piece of fiction that I have ever read. It destroyed any desire of mine to continue the series and took me over a year to read. Drizz't should have died years ago and my gaming group is wack.

Wow, that was quite a rant of nonsense...oh well.

28 yr old semiconductor manufacturing engineer, currently residing in Austin, TX. This is utilizing my degree in Materials Science and Engineering.

Been gaming for about 21 years now. Started on the basic, boxed D&D. Evolved to AD&D, Star Frontiers, Shadowrun, GURPS, Earthdawn, Feng Shui, and back to 3E now. Broke up that string with a few other, forgettable, games. Even gave up RPG'ing to play Roborally almost exclusively for a year and a half.

Grew up near Madison, WI. Spent much of my youth marching, both drum corps and marching bands. 17 season total as a member; plus 5 years writing drill and a couple teaching camps. Yeah, band geek.

Now happily living with my wife of just over 1 year, our dog (dach-mix), and 7 fish.
