[OT] Wisdom Teeth

Chalk up another person born without wisdom teeth: my mom. She likes to say that she's more evolved than others . I've never bothered to check if I have or don't have wisdom teeth; not something that regularly crosses one's mind.

In regards to the original topic, no, not all wisdom teeth cause problems. In other news, not everyone loses the lottery, either.

I've had mine for 8 years now. Two didn't come straight, but the dentist said they didn't need to be removed. I only had trouble with them when they first came out.

No cavities, which is strange, because I've had like 8 cavities in other teeth since

I plan on removing them anyway while I'm part of the free (well 6 euros a visit) dental care for students. Hey wait, I HATE going to the dentist .. just narrowly avoided root canal this spring

All my Wisdom teeth came in ok, and haven't bothered me, but they are hard to brush. So, one day, a couple of years ago, I was snacking on some Doritoes, and one of my wisdom teeth chipped. So, the dentist had to pull it. Was torture, because the roots went in different directions, and he ended up having to saw the tooth in half and pull it out in two pieces. (anyone getting sueamish, yet?). This past year, the top tooth had to come out because since the tooth that was below it was missing, it was coming down, since it had no resistance. Fortunately, I had absolutely no problems with that one. So, the two wisdom teeth on my right side are both, but I still have both of them on the left side.

Three of mine came in just fine, but my lower right came in at an angle, causing me no amount of pain and making all of my other teeth sensitive. I dealt with it for six months until my wife comvinced me to go to the dentist. They had to put me under, and it came out in five peices. The lesson here is the moment you know that something's wrong with it, get it taken care of.

I had three wisdom teeth removed at one time, and for the next week I couldn't open my mouth more than a quarter of an inch. I spent the week drinking through a straw and slurping up mashed potatoes and applesauce like a vacuum cleaner, all the while exercising my jaw muscles by sliding ever-increasing stacks of popsicle sticks between my teeth. Fun times!

die_kluge, stories like yours make me very thankful that I chose general anesthetic when I had my teeth pulled. I was lucky, no swelling, no pain, despite having all four (two of which were impacted) pulled.

mine came in at goofy angles and shouls have been removed when I was 19, but being the lazy sort that I am, I waited until I was 29.

Had all four out at once, was awake through the whole thing and didn't have any problems or pain at all. took like 15 min.

My dentist recommends getting them out young to prevent problems later.

I was supposed to ge tmine removed about 10 years ago, and I din't go back to a dentist since then until about 6 months ago. Despite my neglect my normal teeth were in good shape the onlyproblems being with the wisdom teet one of which had decayed 1/2 away, and old fillings which had shrunk and needed to b fixed.

For some poeple apparently it hurts, me I got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once, i was mostly under during the operation, I gues I got an immunity to that drug. Anywho, I took my pain medicaiton tha tnight and woke up with no pain and never felt any pain even without taking the meds from that morning on.

The only pains were the upkeep with the salt water rinses, the lack of solid food for a while, and the really big freakin bill that I had to pay since as a contractor I have no dental coverage. All in all this year I've speant about 3,000 on my teeth, my saving aren't happy. Then again I spent 3,000 on a trip to hawaii and i feel much better about that cost.

It really depends, mine started to effect my jaw and they did not come until I was 25!
