That was "The Fantastic Journey" back in 1977.

Do you remember if it also had a character that carried this little device that looked alike a crystal (or clear plastic) tuning fork that the character used to zap things (generally other devices)?

Well, The Flash is speeding into full-length motion picture, thanks to David Goyer. So far he mentioned that Jay Garrick, Barry Allen and Wally West would all be in the movie.
