Other than LoTR P. Jackson's work blows.

I was looking at his listings on imdb.com and jeez what a list of less than sterling work save for LotR. Haven't seen them all but the ones I have made me cringe. Makes me think that redoing King Kong may be a good move since he doesn't have to put any of his own original ideas on the screen. As long as he doesn't tinker with the story too much as he did in places in LotR.

Oh, you're so wrong, you're glemphy.

I've seen two of his works - Meet the Feebles and Heavenly Creatures. Both were immensely creative -- from the childlike innocence of the puppet-action in MtF to the freaky familial dynamics in HC, he knows what he's doing.

When I heard he was directed LotR way back when, I was ecstatic: I couldn't imagine anyone doing a better job than the imaginative powerhouse behind these two movies.

reminds me of less than sterling acting performances by Academy Award winning actors.

take Tom Hanks for example in his portrayal of a gamer geek. ;)

I didn't care for Meet The Feebles but Dead Alive (also known as Brain Dead) and Heavenly Creatures are two brilliant movies. Love them both, watch them regularly. The Frighteners I didn't think was very good, but those other two -- hoo boy.

That said, I was certainly startled to hear he'd been given $300 million dollars to make three films. That was a HUGE risk by New Line and I'm very pleased it has paid off so well for them.

I went to see The Frighteners, expecting a half-way watchable movie; it hadn't been promoted at all and I hadn't heard any word of mouth about it. Man, I was blown away; it became one of my favorite films.

Haven't seen the others.

Dead Alive Brillant? Come on it is a low budget slasher flick, amusing within the confines of its genre, but not brillant.

While I find this continual annoiting of Peter Jackson as the one true cinema master a bit overwrought and annoying, I do credit him a true director.

Peter Jackson is able to produce generally watchable and enjoyable films within any level of budget be it shoestring,(Dead Alive, Meet the Feebles), moderate(the Frightners), or blockbuster (LOTR), the same can not be said for all directors.

1st: Next time you wanna have a thread about PJax, try a less trollish approach - it demeans you.

2nd - if you've seen The Frighteners, I would be very interested to hear criticism of it. It's a fantastic work - fiercely creative, ballsy, and very well done.

The Frighteners was ok, but Heavenly Creatures was absolutely brilliant. The concluding scene is one of the most disturbing I've ever seen.

If you do not recognize zombie horror as the true pinnacle of cinematic genius, that's your problem, not mine.

:D

As far as I'm concerned, any film that reduces a bad guy to a set of squirming intestines and still makes him a threat counts as brilliant.

He's not George Romero (the tutelary deity of zombie horror), but he's a good demigod servitor.

Brains. Brains.
