Outrage! Let's send a message to WotC!

I know, I know. You're all going to say this is premature: however there have already been great number of official changes as well as what Andy Collins is willing to admit to on his Website.

I was, at first, pleased with what I saw about the WotC revisions. Mechanics that needed fixing and clarification. Classes that needed more flavour. Broken spells that needed nerfing. Some very cool things.

However, as time has gone on it has become increasingly apparent that they have NOT done a good job. Their mechanics are poorly designed, their spell-nerfing excessive. What was meant as a 'minor, backwards-compatible adjustment' has become a radical change. According to Andy Collins' website, moreover, the changes have already been made. The books are already at the printer...meaning that neither debate, discussion, nor complaint will do any good.

In response to what I've seen, I am now most assiduously NOT purchasing the new rulebooks.

Friends, Enemies, Compatriots! I know you're out there: Here's what I want to do. Debating the merits of the particulars does no good anymore. Let's show the designers and parent company that they messed up. Please post below if you feel similarly. Let us SHOW them how many people they've offended and how much money they've lost. And please post WHY you feel this way. I will personally send the results of this thread (and others posted in other forums) to Andy Collins, Ed Stark, and others.

To those who disagree with me: Please note, I am not here to debate. If you wish to debate, I will answer on another thread. I fully expect there to be contradictory reasons for disatisfaction.

Edit: Forethought good...fatigue bad.

And the requisite personal reply: Ok, I've actually said it. In there interests of reference, here's what finally pushed ME over the edge: Inappropriate changes, such as the gnome's favored class. But most especially the poorly thought-out spell changes, such as the Hold Person and Bull's Strength buffs. There is NO excuse for ruining a caster's fun even IF casters as a whole are overpowered.

Congratulations, WotC, that's $90.00 of my money you won't be earning.

Edit: Errr...embarassing typo corrected with special thanks to Hypersmurf.:o

Where do we post if we think all the changes we've seen so far are good ideas due to experience playing and DM'ing casters and other characters? :)

If the caster's fun is ruining the fun of the rest of the group then there is ample justification and reason to reduce his power.

The most radical suggestion yet seems to be to download the new SRD when it arrives, look at the changes, and see how well they work in context. THEN voice disapproval to the high heavens at what you see.

It's what I'm doing, maverick that I am. :)

Oh my, oh my, the whiners again.
3.5 rocks, its been over 3 years of 3e, so it doesnt hurt much to buy into 3.5e....
You whiners are the same people who go into Matrix 1 & 2 & 3 and go see the tripple feature after that too. And nobody complains to pay 6 times for the same crap all over....

HUH?

What does the Matrix have to do w/ D&D?

You don't want a debate? Fine. Here's a sermon.

This thread is part of a rich legacy of delusional nerds.

Remember HEAT? "Hal Jordan is the one true Green Lantern"? Death threats against Ron Marz? Same thing.

Remember "Star Trek: Excelsior"? How five nerds picketed Paramount and demanded that George Takai get his own series? Same thing.

Remember when 3.0 came out? "Let's show the designers and parent company that they messed up. Let us SHOW them how many people they've offended and how much money they've lost" because they replaced 2.0.

The common thread in this rich tapestry is the belief that lots of other people share your opinion --- enough that once you start whoopin' and a-hollerin', professional creators and the businessmen who market those creations will realize the error of their ways and make George Takai the new Green Lantern with a favored class of illusionist.

What is the point of sending your petition to WotC? Do you suppose they will pulp the 3.5 books because you and your internet friends (who I'm sure will show up eventually) said so?

They won't get your $90? Were you planning on buying additional copies of 3.0 core books this summer for some reason? Because virtually everyone on these boards already has those books. WotC already has my $90, and yours, and theirs. By producing 3.5, WotC has thousands of people happily prepared to spend ANOTHER $90.

Do not delude yourself into thinking that most people, or even many people, have already made up their minds that 3.5 is broken or has excessive changes or is otherwise A Bad Thing. Do not delude yourself into thinking that it has not occurred to WotC that some of these changes might be unpopular to some people. Wait until the books come out, read the SRD, listen to the designers talk about the reasoning behind the changes, and then decide whether the bad outweighs the good to such an extent that your $90 is better spent elsewhere.
