Overused DnD words for 2005 (it's that time again) [merged]

Judging by the ammount of 2005 that I've seen so far, I'm going to have to go with "WOOOO!" being the most overused word so far.

Though that'll probably change with a little time.

I will second this one...a certain player in my group has a habit of saying "WOOT" at the drop of a hat. His turn comes up..."WOOT"...he makes a successful attack..."WOOT"...he makes a skill check..."WOOT".

He's getting dangerously close to being on the receiving end of my +10 Boot To The Backside.

Oh well, enough ranting...that's the one I would like to see fade into obscurity.

Books, books, books. It's all about the books for some people. But do they ever stop to think about all the poor illiterate folks who might be reading this message board and feel left out because they can't get in on all this book stuff? No, I didn't think so.

How about those overused words:

Two from last year:

1 & 2. Ubiquitous and Verisimilitude (I mean really!)

Nope. Both good words if usd appropriately.

And a couple new ones that really need to go away:


3. Harry Potter

What's wrong with Harry Potter? Besides being quite well-written for its audience, those books have done more for getting children worldwide to read than any series you can think of for the last ten years. As a teacher, I want a lot more Harry Potter!

4. Session - I don't know why this word bugs me (it really does) when descibing DnD get-togethers. A session is something you have with your therapist when you can't ignore the voices. I call them "gatherings".

Man, you're sensitive! Have a session with your therapist.

Oh and one more:

5. Uber

Indeed, since nobody seems to bother to spell it correctly. It's über. The umlaut is your friend.

Actually, I kinda like verisimillitude when it's used correctly. Ubiquitous, too. They're great words. We use session, too.

Damn.

I'd like to see the word "ostensibly" used more often. Could we try to make it an over-used word that makes the list this time next year?
