Overused DnD words for 2005 (it's that time again) [merged]

I hate it when people use agreed as a one-word sentence.

It's boring, predictable and overused. Next time you agree with someone, think of something a little more personalized to say.

"-punk" as used in compound words to describe a particular genre or setting: esp. "steampunk" or "cyberpunk".

Spot on with that one. 'Steampunk' was highly dubious. By 'dungeonpunk', -punk had really jumped the shark.

"Eberron" needs to disappear.

"pwn", "pwned" and especially "pwnd".

"shizzle", "dizzle", and inserting "izz" in the middle of words, such as "Dizzungeons and Drizzagons". Unfortunately I do this constantly during D&D sessions (er, sorry, gatherings), so I made it my New Year's resolution to stop.

Also, I think 2004 was the year of the word "douchebag," but I think it will disappear again in '05.

RPG Banned Words?

A committee at Lake Superior State University released its annual list of words that should be banned for "Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness". "Blog", "-izzle", and "flip-flop" made the list.

Um, I'm not sure how the heck you get that blogs are the reason "our man lost", but for the record, I agree wholeheartedly with the last part of your sentiment. Blogs are where Freedom of the Press lives now....

A side note about the media establishment: They don't really care about politics (unless they directly bear on their business). They care about feeding their market whatever will keep them watching and keep their ratings up, and their ad sales up. See also: Fox News.

Verisimilitude should be banned. It's a pretentious word. Just say "realism" and be done with it.
