Overused DnD words for 2005 (it's that time again) [merged]

For me, it's balanced.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against balance, I like balance. Most of the time, anyway.

I just don't like comments (in MB posts or more importantly product reviews) that say things like "the classes aren't balanced", then leave it at that. You know what? SHOW YOUR WORK! :)

Edit: And I know I've been guilty of this too.

Um, I'm not sure how the heck you get that blogs are the reason "our man lost", but for the record, I agree wholeheartedly with the last part of your sentiment. Blogs are where Freedom of the Press lives now....

I dont want to cross the line again, but suffice it to say that blogs were key players in the "Swifties" and "Memogate" scandals that I'd rather not say more about then simply referencing them.

How about those overused words:

Two from last year:

1 & 2. Ubiquitous and Verisimilitude (I mean really!)

Well, ubiquitous is a useful word. I can't really agree with you on that one. Verisimilitude would be used a whole lot less if people would stop jumping down others' throats for using the word realism in relation to role playing. We all know what the person means, why bother them about it?

And a couple new ones that really need to go away:

3. Harry Potter

4. Session - I don't know why this word bugs me (it really does) when descibing DnD get-togethers. A session is something you have with your therapist when you can't ignore the voices. I call them "gatherings". :)
Oh and one more:

5. Uber

Banish these words!

I'm not really sure what your problem is with Harry Potter...

I agree with you on session. I don't usually refer to them in any way, but when I do, I usually use gatherings.

Über is a good word. But I prefer the word güd. In conversation you can pronounce this as "good, spelled with a 'u' with two dots".

I think all of you pessimists should rethink your statements on this thread. In this new year we should not look back and instead look forward. It's not important to discuss which DND words were overused. It's far more important to discuss which words should be incorporated into the gaming lexicon.

My propasal:Craptacular

It's a way to describe someone's gameplay. "Your commoner's moves against that giant were craptacular!"
It's a review. Your book was 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 stars......No way. Not even close. Your product was craptacular!
It's a new Ennie category!

Yes. The glass is half FULL, not half empty, with crap!

:)

I think the word "unbalanced" shoudl be banned. I think people often have trouble thinkign up creative counters to a tough ability, so they just label it unbalanced and complain rather than think their way through a problem, monster, or class.

d3wdz0rz this p0st is craptacular...
PWNED!!!1111
;)

I would ban:
Low Magic - For being utterly ambiguous and useless when having discussions.
-punk - For being used incorrectly (yes, I know I use it alot, I can't help it!)
Anime - For being used to describe artwork. Mostly for being used as a derogatory term to describe artwork. Every time it's used, I swear the person using the word has no idea what anime (in general) looks like.
