own race as favored enemy = evil?

At least in FR it's clearly stated that elf taking drow as favored enemy is only know breach of the rule (only evils can take own race as favored enemy), but I suppose it's same for dwarves and druergars.
Also, I'd let a non-evil drow who thinks like Drizzt take his own race as enemy, too.

And Chrono: Just don't shaft Rangers any further, ok? ;) That is, if you reduce their favored enemy ability, you'll give them something else instead, right? (Unless, of course, the only distinction between your countries is culture, not race - e.g., you have a humans-only world or whatever.:))

Answer: Bounty Hunter PrC

Prereq: Ranger 1, May not be LG

Bounty Hunters may take own race as Favoured enemy.

(see problem solved)

LG restriction is because in order to bring back their target (Dead or Alive) the Bounty Hunter sometimes has to act outside the law.

Tonguez,

That's a great idea. It's true that this problem can be fixed without changing any of the core rules. It could also work as a feat:

Seeker of Justice
Prerequisites: Favored enemy ability, non-evil alignment
Benefit: You may take your own race as favored enemy.
Normal: Without this feat you can only take your own race as favored enemy if you are evil.

If they really wanted a restriction like this in the PHB, I think that they should have said that you can't be LAWFUL though, not that you can't be good. Oh well.

EDIT: On second thought, lawful doesn't make sense either, so never mind that last comment.

Darn it to heck! You beat me to the post! Good idea, Tonguez.

Favoured enemy: bunny rabbits.

Now that is evil.

Unless of course you are warned upon entering a rabbits lair that "death awaits you all with white pointy teeth".

But I think that is usually a warning reserved for dire bunnies.

Just a thought, really. Hasn't come up yet, except for my OA
campaign...and that's all human-centric and clanny.

One thing I've done that's helped the ranger IMC is
remove that silly double-weapon restriction on their
Two-Weapon Fighting ability...does that even it out? :)

Bah. Of all the rules associated with Rangers that poeple don't like, I think this is the silliest. A ranger that spnds a lifetime hunting bandits in the woods most definitely has to be evil, does he? But if he was hunting elven children as they stray form their village, he can be lawful good, no problem.

I get the impression you're being sarcastic. This makes perfect literal sense to me.

lol

And me want a vorpal bunny!

And to answer your question Shadeus:
From my House Rules
Rangers coming from a predominately goodly aligned race, such as elves and dwarves, can not select their own race as a favored enemy. The exception is when you further specify a subrace that is diametrically opposed in morals from your race, such as the likes of drows and duergars.

I would say let the player give your (as DM) give you a good reason what his favourite is. If the reason is good enough why not let him (or her) take that favourite enemy.

So if a ranger specializes in tracking and taking down of mounted enemies, Id say more power to him.
