Ownership of the print top 20?

These are the ones I own.

Of these ToH gets the most use. I think I used a template from the MotP. I used the Starfarer's Handbook to create a PC for a PBEM Dragonstar game that I didn't stick with. I haven't used Unearthed Arcana yet, but I suspect I will be in the future.

6. Tome of Horrors Necromancer Games 4.83 12
9. Manual of the Planes Wizards of the Coast 4.79 14
15. Starfarers Handbook Fantasy Flight Games 4.70 10
18. Unearthed Arcana Wizards of the Coast 4.67 6

At some point in my life I will own:
20. World of Whitethorn 1B: The Village of Oester Open World Press 4.60 5

I have purchased for a friend, but have never used (nor has he, for that matter)
21. Nyambe: African Adventures Atlas Games 4.60 5

BTW, of the ones I don't have, I'm most interested in getting Monsternomicon and the Village of Oester.

I also want to get Monsternomicon, but I haven't had the chance to yet. It was all out at the store the last time I checked.

If you want to get "The Village of Oester", you can get it on sale and direct right here:

http://www.indiepressrevolution.com

Also, you'll get FREE Priority Mail shipping within the U.S. or a very reasonable rate for a foreign order! It's a new project I'm going to announce soon, but I thought you might want to know where you can this book now.

I'm so disappointed you don't ALREADY have it! :)

Do you have "The Hamlet of Thumble"? It's on sale for $9.99 (33% off from $14.99) at Indie Press Revolution!

Don't worry, Morrus, we ARE going to buy EN World advertising when the site officially launches next month.

Man do I feel pitiful.

I should have 18. Unearthed Arcana Wizards of the Coast 4.67 6 coming in the mail soon... My wife ordered for my birthday more than two months ago.

That's the only thing on the Top 20 list that even close to owning.

See, this is a good example why more "professional" rating services like imdb.com use something called a "Bayesian estimate" to compensate for differences in the number of votes for each candidate. I won't go into details of why the formula has the shape it does, but the upshot is that it's equivalent to adding a small number of "pseudo"-votes with a score equal to the overall average score.

So what do you all think... does this ranking make more sense to you? From a statistical point of view, it should be more reliable...

*Tips Hat*

First, that was probably the best explanation of Bayesian estimates I've ever read.

And second, your adjusted list certainly better reflects observed reality and overheard opinion as I've experienced it, as least.

From the initial list, I only have Tome of Horrors and Manual of the Planes. From the Bayesian list, I can add the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.

my list

Hi,

I have the following:

6. Tome of Horrors Necromancer Games 4.83 12
9. Manual of the Planes Wizards of the Coast 4.79 14
11. Call of Cthulhu d20 Wizards of the Coast 4.75 8
12. The Tomb of Abysthor Necromancer Games 4.71 7
13. The Monsternomicon Vol. I Privateer Press 4.71 7
14. Book of the Righteous, The Green Ronin Publishing 4.70 10
18. Unearthed Arcana Wizards of the Coast 4.67 6
21. Nyambe: African Adventures Atlas Games 4.60 5

I've used all of these except Unearthed Arcana and Book of the Righteous. -- not very much, but I have used them. I think Nyambe got the most use as I set a long adventure in Hepmonaland and used quite a few of the races and monsters from it.

Cheers

Meaning you have none? That's kinda sad.

Pick up some more books now! :)

Oh, I pick up books all the time...

Then I set them back down on the shelf, and I leave the store without inflicting any more harm upon my poor, lonely, empty bank account.

Here's what I have. I've used Hammer & Helm, The Book of Taverns, Monsternomicon and Unearthed Arcana. But I've enjoyed reading the rest, and I'm sure I'll end up using ideas from them eventually. Well, except for MotP and Ghelspad. Those are probably going to end up at a used book store eventually.
