Packmaster PrC Ideas. Help Please?

I've wanted a PrC for this for a while, and there doesn't seem to be one that exists.
I made a warcraft III hero have this concept and it was pretty freaking cool, and there's now the magic card "Wren's Run Packmaster".
So basically what I'm lookng for is either a Base Class or more Likely a PrC that is a non-spellcaster, and essentially has 3-7 animal companions, increasing in number and power up to 7. These animals would all have to be of the same type, and possibly the numbers could be related to what the CR was. so if someone chose rats they would get more.
I'm thinking say IE 3-7 wolf companions. Maybe the ability to drop 2 regular wolves for a bigger nastier one, possibly a ridable.
The class needs to be on an empathic level with these animals, and possibly animals of the same type, but not other types of animals. Maybe it could be extended though, so if you pick wolf, youre empathic with canines. And not necessarily naturey. just needs to relate well with this specific animal.
Maybe Scent as a Class Ability?

D8/d10 HD. 6+int skills/4+int maybe.
they need handle animal, ride, and survival as prerreqs as well as class skills.
What else? and how should I work in the Companions?
However the wolves are, I think they should keep scaling outside the PrC as well. Maybe they gain levels of some sort? or maybe they are based on your total HD?
maybe it gains buffs for the companions as well? I dunno.
I'm thinking maybe this should be a short PrC, maybe a 5 level one, maybe not.
What do you think?
