D&D 4E Paizo and 4e - Vive le Revolution!

Ultimately, I'm reminded of the old saying "If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes." Paizo has intimate experience with Wotc, having had to clear every issue of Dungeon and Dragon with them and abide with their decisions on things like Age of Worms hardbacks etc. Maybe Paizo is tired of the view. Maybe they can see an opportunity with a 3.75 edition to be the "lead dog" of their own rules set.

Except Paizo has already said they'd rather not, yes thank you very much.

I don't know anyone that has asked or gotten a legal opinion from Hasbro's Legal Division on this... so opinion might as well be fact... we have little else to go on.

That is the problem of assigning absolutes to one's opinions and beliefs.

It is no secret that Hasbro's legal department would not have supported the 3x d20 license and OGL. I find it rather hard to imagine that the 4e d20 license and OGL will be as "generous" as the 3x versions.

Having direct experience with this issue, I can tell you that statement is false. Hasbro legal signed off. They didnt care. It was a WotC issue. WotC has always supported Open Gaming. It is only the ramblings and speculations of people on the internet who have some wierd need to believe that WotC hates open gaming that perpetuate this misinformation.

Hasbro doesnt care about open gaming. D&D as a rules set needs to be a money maker. That is what they care about. Open Gaming is barely a blip on their radar. And it is clear open gaming isnt hurting D&D.

I have emails from nearly all iterations of WotC legal fully supporting open gaming with no indication of problems from Hasbro. And in my discussion with all of said people there has never been a "Hasbro doesnt want that" or "I have to check with Hasbro on that." It simply isnt true.

WotC fully supports open gaming. Hasbro doesnt care about that part.

I actually expect the 4E SRD (when it is eventually release, but not pre-launch) to be BETTER than the 3e SRD. I expect the 4E one to be more flexible and to integrate more of the non-core books. WotC knows that one problem with the 3E SRD was how it never incorporated the splat book content because of how hard it was to update and maintain the SRD. I expect that to improve in 4E. I've had discussions with people at WotC about thsi very issue. I cant tell you what they will do, but I can tell you they know about this and want to find a solution that lets us support all their books not just the core ones.

So please quit repeating the silly idea that Hasbro even cares, let alone that they wouldnt have approved open gaming. It is just internet BS.
