Pathfinder 1E Paizo being mysterious

Sounds more like a board and/or website change, since the teaser mentions the decision has been 'forced', probably by some unrecoverable problems.

#1: I know. I said as much as I know: Clark stated Necro was doing a set of 4E books with Paizo. Don't believe me? Find that thread and you'll find that quote. Then you can apologize, or not. Doesn't matter to me.

#2: For once, I'm not trying to be. Irony.

W.P.

Are you certain he wasn't talking about the publishing relationship they have? Necromancer would be producing the books on their own, distributed through Paizo, and Paizo would never have to switch their lines.

At this time Necro is in a similar agreement with Paizo that they were in with Sword and Sorcery, Kenzer, and Troll Lords. At least, I think that is the current situation.

Is it possible that is what he meant?

Because, honesly, I can't see Clark just tipping Paizo's hand like that. Especially since they have seemed so reluctant to make a decision until they had all of the facts.

I'm not, actually. You raise some good points. I don't think Clark stated what the collaboration would entail, and I didn't think to ask.

The Jerk :)

Complete speculation: Paizo has reached a deal with Wizards to reassume control of both Dragon and Dungeon magazine, the catch being that both--or perhaps a consolidation of the two, to reduce printing costs--as well as Pathfinder and other Paizo products, will serve as vehicles for Fourth Edition material.

As much as I would want this, I doubt it to be the case. But wow, talk about how quickly I would sign up for DI if that were the case.

I doubt they'd go back to a print Dungeon and Dragon, but I could certainly see Paizo getting a contract to produce the online content for them.

I don't think that's what the annoncement is, but I don't think its outside the realm of possibility.

Every editor has posted that they're excited and anxious. Words such as "this is a big day for Paizo", and "the company is buying us pizza and we'll probably not get any work done" are being said..

That doesn't sound like they're updating the message boards. :D

I won't for a minute say I know what is happening, but I don't believe it's a software upgrade to the website.

Then why shut down the whole site? Ordering on the web store is automated, yeah? Except right now no one can do it, whether they care about 3.5E or 4E or My Little Pony.

Paizo is potentially losing money right now by having the whole site shut down. They certainly aren't making any money off me from that order I was going to submit today. Why do that to make a decision about 4E?

To wander into completely hypothetical territory, if I were running a business, and if I sold at least some products on a subscription basis, and if I were making a change which could impact the perceived value of the subscriptions I sold, then I think I would shut down access to my store while making preparations for the announcement.

Some people might be less likely to buy certain products if they announce a 4e switch, so they may have prevented access to prevent today's purchasers from feeling "Screwed".

Or, you know, something entirely different.

(quick check to ensure Paizo hasn't updated its site thus invalidating this post... check)

Thaumaturge.

Regarding this

Okay now I agree about the dragon and dungeon debacle personally I think WOTC shot themselves in the foot when they shut this down to go full online content.

Those magazines served admirably to provide new details about 3.0 and 3.5 removing it to secure their new edition seemed pointless but this choice and the announcement allowed Paizo to release Pathfinder so something good came from it all.

Paizo's messageboard is still down so I guess its wait and see for now.

Still I can't help wondering when they'll deal with the setting used in the preview books to describe the new 4e... any of you think the same?

Any word when 4e will be demonstrated in the UK or Europe for that matter?
