I'm not saying there isn't plenty of commercial traffic on the freeway (see my analogy above.) But that traffic is, still, not railroad trains running down the railroad tracks.
Some of us happen to love railroads. So when they are gone, we are unhappy.
When D&D as we knew it is gone, we are unhappy too. When Dragon Magazine is gone, we are unhappy.

And perhaps we do not wish to deal with the new and strange things that replace what we love, especially when we are forcibly told we will change or we can leave the hobby. (It's their way, or no way, at all.)

Just thought I'd post my all time favourite series of Dragon covers - the chess covers by Dennis Beauvais:

Those are in fact great covers. I have all those issues, and those covers are quite memorable. I hope we get similar great art from the new form of the magazines.

*is only semi-attached to some things* Like my sanity for starters! ;)

*thinks Mist thinks too much of people in charge* That's why he's a lawyer I guess.

Hensley,

I think it's a tad different but you're essentially right about the losers, the gamers. Paizo will survive since they have more than just their Pathfinder adventures to fall back on.

Ruby,

You could always get laser surgergy instead. ;)

I take a darker, more pessimistic approach than most of you. I think it is the end, basically. The end.

Dragon Magazine, in the form of The Strategic Review, actually pre-dates Dungeons and Dragons. It has always been the core magazine of roleplaying along the Dungeons and Dragons lines (other magazines cover White Wolf and Warhammer games, etc.) It's been the core since the early 1970s, the core of the entire Hobby of D&D since it's inception.
If Dragon Magazine can no longer be maintained, in my eyes that signifies there is no longer enough money left in this part of the Hobby to maintain even the core product.

Someone asked 'what's next?' The next thing to go will be GenCon.

It's over.

Wow Edena. You consistently prove that no matter how much of a drama queen others are, you can top them! I love you man, never change!

Hensely,

Hey Downer was just getting good! They just introduced the Ethergaunts for goodness sake! :p :)

Edena,

How? We just let you post. ;)
