Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

I prefer the "kicked in the nethers" analogy being used on the Paizo boards. Much more apt. (And I didn't know Wizards wear steel-toes...)

And to keep things on track, I agree with PC. Piazo did a good job softening the blow with the immediate announcement of Pathfinder. Looks cool, I'm in.

Ag,

That I completely agree with. I'm glad Paizo peoples softened the blow. But a blow is still a blow when it comes out of nowhere.

In any event, Paizo gets my support.

WotC, again, feels like I got shafted.

This is sad news for me. I really liked both Dragon and Dungeon magazines, especially Dungeon. I will miss them. I do plan to look into Pathfinder and see if it will offer content I may find as useful as Dungeon. I don't think I will be interested in any online subscription from WOTC or from anyone else. At this point, I just can't imagine paying for online content, only for an actual physical magazine.

For me the deal-breaker will be character generation. If it can't be done as well as eTools (and that's not a high bar to reach!), then I'll limp along with what I have and not worry about the rest of the online content.

Perhaps a thread entitled "Hey WoTC, here is what we want if you want our subscription money" thread could be started? I have a list of stuff I know I would expect to find if I were to pay for it. Otherwise, I agree, Heroforge/Spellforge and Microsoft Excel all fill the bill, albiet always a half dozen books behind.

Zor,

You'd think that if WotC wanted to try this out, they'd explore the research. I mean does Time or Newsweek do this? No. So it seems to me if they don't do it, why should WotC?

Oh that's right, it's the "new age" thing for gamers. :p

Festivus,

That and maybe tell them we want the option for a REAL magazine, not just online stuff.

Pirate Cat is right lets not hijack it.

he apologized

lets move on to discussing the Press release

I am upset because I just renewed my subscription... if this was a known issue it would have been nice to not have a "hey sign back up for 12 more months!"

I am mad at both parties. At least i will give Paizo some credit they are using this press release as a postive business wise...

I am not sure i want to sign up for something that is more expensive than the current product I signed up for thou... it isnt a replacement.

It does sound like an interesting product. I will take a gander and see.

WotC better have something amazing in the works to announce this now.

Wrath,

You're expecting an explosion when all we'll probably get is a firecracker. I'm just saying, experience has taught me this: WotC's current management is all about being "New Coke." for the gamers.

Because when it comes to gaming, not current events, most magazines are e-zines. Look at Steve Jackson Games and their formerly printed Pyramid. They've gone electronic. Mongoose Publishing is circulating their Signs & Portent electronically after having gone through the print circulation route.

Still, I was hoping against all hope in this digital age, that Dragon (and Dungeons) remains in print.
