Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

So... angry. Dungeon is the best use of my gaming dollar, period... and Dragon ain't far behind.

I'll be waiting to see what WotC makes available online (and the price) before making a decision, but my gut reaction is to go with Pathfinder. Based on five years of outstanding quality and content, I think I can trust Paizo.

Thanks to Erik, James, and all the rest of the Dungeon/Dragon staff (and all the writers!) for the best 3e D&D material ever produced.

As a diehard OOTS fan, I was only buying Dragon for the Order of the Stick comics. So I guess WOTC won't be getting my money for their online subscription service, since I find it highly unlikely that Rich would put his comics on a website other than his own. In fact, all of the comics in Dragon have an online presence already; any bets on whether WOTC will try to create their own in-house webcomic?

Hmm, I just realized. This is the end of Ecology articles.

Or the beginning of a new series of articles on WotC's site called "The Ecology of..."

There is no reason why WotC can't publish all of the articles online now.

Which was the final reason why I decided to buy Pathfinder. Paizo has always treated me right, and I can see concern for their customers in this thread. :D

Besides, I'm still laughing from the time they were snowed in and asked us to decide which of them should go into the cookpot. That's the kind of people I want to support with my hard earned pesos.

Ditto! :D

For the last couple of years it seemed only computer games and minis games actually advertised in the magazines anymore though. After the d20 bubble burst, you rarely saw ads for RPG stuff that wasn't D&D.

No, not really. Look at the small ads in the back, or for some of the movie ads, etc. I would have never found out about Tact-tiles, until I saw an ad in Dungeon. There's a bit more to it, than that but there you go.

I think I'll head over there myself since this thread is degrading into into whining and boycotting like the whole world ended or something. I'll miss Dragon and Dungeon, too, and Paizo has done a wonderful job of producing great articles and listening to our crap here on ENWorld. But I'm going to give this e-zine a chance and not further contribute to the possibility of D&D's downfall.

D&D's downfall....what a pile of crap. Give it a rest. This brand - this goodwill - is worth money and is not going anywhere. Were Hasbro to go bankrupt tomorrow - it would be snapped up by a bidder in 60 days.

There is no downfall - except what these bozos are determined to make of it.

Its IP that was the creation of others. It's not going away. If it wasn't profitable enough - Habro would sell it to the top bidder, in a New York Minute.

Frankly, this plea to be nice and give the new online gig a fair shot comes off as sycophantic whinging.

(Yes - it really does Razz.)

Not a good sign that Wizards has *nothing* to show for its supposed alternative. They've been working on this digitial initiative since 3.0 came *out* and not even a screenshot or mockup is done :/

I honestly never cared that much about Dungeon (except for the ones where they revisited old campaign worlds) but this is going to end badly for everyone.

Erik / James / Paizo-ites,

I have transferred by subscription blindly over to the Pathfinder product, because I have faith in you Pazio-ites. It was the current Paizo team that I feel really brought those magazines to new heights and garnered a 3 year subscription from me.

Thanks for the kind words! As for Pathfinder... the same folks who've been working on the Dungeon Adventure Paths are working on Pathfinder. I'm really excited and impressed with what I've seen from Wayne and our authors for Rise of the Runelords (Wolf Baur, Steve Greer, Nick Logue, Rich Pett, and Greg Vaughan). Everything we've learnd working on Age of Worms and Shackled City and Savage Tide is being applied to Rise of the Runelords. You're not gonna be disapointed. :-)

I've been a huge fan of Core Beliefs--will we be able to get an announcement of all the final Core Beliefs articles?

Heh, just realized we won't be seeing any more of those "Why doesn't Dungeon run more Eberron adventures" threads anymore.... :p

Well we haven't seen in them in some time now have we? ;)

We also won't see "Why doesn't Pathfinder run more Greyhawk adventures" either.
