Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

I never knew there was such a thing as a snark free message board. A lofty goal to be sure but good luck getting there.

You're probably right about that but since it's recently been reiterated that we were going to be extremely firm on this whole WOTC/Paizo thing, I felt free, for example, to 3-day ban warlord for his "burn in all 9 hells" comment just now.

Wow. The mods are cruel and funny all at the same time!

See, you too are funny and cruel. But you're more funny than cruel so you have to hang out here for the next three days instead of go out and be productive.

That'll teach ya! ;)

I'll be civil here since it's EN World, there are other places to be uncivil.

As far as it goes, I really liked Dungeon and Dragon magazines. Especially since the move to Piazo and have found that often they exceeded the quality of WoTC products in many ways. More than that I have always considered them as icons of D&D, my introduction to D&D was swiping one of my older brother's Dragon issues and then approaching him to try to worm my way into the game he played with his friends.

But I see no information coming back from WoTC other than "It'll be great trust us" and I find this very worrying. So there are a few questions I think are very pertinent to WoTC if it wants to get anywhere with this new project even though I won't myself touch it.

1.) What will the format be, will it cover the same areas and material that Dungeon and Dragon did? If not what will be the content at least generally?

2.) Is the subscription model the only method of access? Will you be able to buy individual installments or preview parts of the material beforehand to know what you're getting?

3.) How will the material be distributed? Will consumers have to go online to access it? Will it be downloadable? Will there be DRM or copy protection and if so what are the limitations?

4.) Will it include other material such as a crosslinked full text or even just full rules database similar to the Hypertext SRD? A non-open content character generator?

O Lords, the Great Rel has found the 10th He(toothpicks).

Thank Eric's Grandmother for smileys.

I am unhappy about the magazines going online, but I am finding myself surprisingly excited about Pathfinder. I don't generally like the idea of "adventure paths", but this product is making me salivate. :D
James Jacobs kept mentioning a sort of "1st ed" approach to Pathfinder, mainly regarding the way the campaign setting is going to be explored by gamers: through adventures mainly, not backdrop sourcebooks. That, and the way the whole design seems at this point to turn out (with some fun but creepy goblins, "1st ed feel" runelords bad guys, a portion of the setting that could be left to design by Necromancer Games (whoohoo!), etc) and you've got the recipe for the excitement you're feeling right now, Raven.

At least, I know these elements make me all the more excited about Pathfinder! :D

As much as I dislike what's been done, it's been done and the entire thing is a done deal. It's not a question of stopping it, but instead of how to cope with and adapt to what this decision does to the gaming world (and my part of it).
