Paladin needs help leading her party

I often bring up Samurai Jack in Paladin threads. The character is so Paladin-like that he's a fantastic source of Paladin roleplaying inspiration.

If you're familar with Jack, act like Jack. Chaotic party members? They'd be like the Scotsman, Jack's occasional partner. Jack tolerates the Scotsman, but Jack doesn't compromise his beliefs. They simply work together for the greater good.

So I'd concentrate on those two things. Don't give up your lawful good beliefs, and remind yourself that you're working with these chaotic folks for the greater good. They may test your patience, but stay noble. Like Jack. :)

Could you give us more of a sense of the narrative of how your party was formed/assembled and what, in storyline terms, keeps you together?

I agrre with infax and brisk-sg and to a degree crusaderx. I think the preaching paladin is kind of a cool character idea, not the turn or burn fire and brimstone kind but the edification and helping along. Think about Jesus where and who was he with. He was sitting on the hills where everyone was carousing and getting drunk, he was hanging out with the thieve the drunks and the gamblers.

Hope this helps

Thanks to everyone for the great advice!

We had our first session last night. I didn't do that great of a job because I wasn't feeling well, and with this group you have to scream for anyone to hear you.

Basically, we are taking a break from our regular campaign because my husband, our usual DM, works for Verizon and he is on "strike watch" so to speak. Any mintue he could be called in to take over for the union workers.

One of our other members is DMing for a while. We are playing the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Basically we all know each other, and that's about all the history we have. I have to stay with this group because, out of game, these are the people I am playing with.

We have a group that basically no matter what character they are playing pieces of their (chaotic) personalities come through.

I am not that "up" on playing a paladin and was just looking for some ways to try to keep everyone in line. I don't want to be preachy or the bummer of the party. I see her more as a good soul who speaks up for the downtrodden and fiercely protects her friends and the less fortunate.

I have never seen Samuari Jack, by the way, but I think I'll try to check it out.

Thanks again!

Well in RttTEE has a lot of dungeon crawling so once you get to those parts it is not generally an issue when your down in the dark.

We are about a new 3.5 campaign, in which I play (not DM). We are:

Rogue (CG)
Ranger (NG)
Druid (LN)
Paladin (NE... [kidding]: LG)

Find the intruder...

Of course, I am playing the paladin, so this thread got my attention. I am a bit worried how my character will view what is basically three people living outside of society.

Or...

Is it possible to be a Paladin of Elhonna ? If so, I will convince the Ranger and Druid to pick up Elhonna...

Since you already had your first session its a bit late. I would just like to suggest that the last Dragon magazine had other alignment paladin classes. They were all very well done and very cool. I allow those in my campaign now. Its a definite plus so you don't HAVE to be LG. This way you can still be good or even neutral and have that type of character without full restrictions of the LG "i can't lie or cheat or steal AT ALL" kind of thing.

Tell him I say "thanks" for the kewl visor they gave away at Shea Stadium a few weeks ago. Although if I hear James Earl Jones ever attempt the National Anthem again I might have to jump off the upper deck!

I'll tell him, even though he has nothing to do with the cool visor and more to do with the "oh no we have no 911 system"!

I didn't know Jones could sing! Breathe heavy, yes, sing, no...

Ps It's great to see a fellow Mets fan.. brave to stick your head out in public these days...
