Paladin touch attack and smite

Technically no, but it seems thematically appropriate for a paladin wielding positive energy against an undead creature to further increase its effectiveness by imbuing it with the power of good.

If you think the concept is cool enough to bend the rules, but are worried that it will make undead encounters too easy, one compromise is to allow smite evil to increase the attack roll, but not the damage roll.

Hmmm... Lay on Hands used offensively is very, very similar to range: touch spells.

How about this:

It seems to me you might be able to use Lay on Hands and "hold the charge," delivering it the next round with an unarmed strike and then do unarmed strike damage, Lay on Hands damage AND Smite damage.

It's a very minor stretch of the rules to do this, and it is balanced by the required use of two actions in two rounds to accomplish it.

It's not really technically legal, though, I think, and certainly is not as good as allowing Smite to combine with the offensive use of Lay on Hands.

How about a new Feat?

SMITING TOUCH [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Smite ability, base attack bonus +4
Benefit: A character with this feat may combine a Smite with any damage dealing Touch Attack.
Normal: A Smite cannot be combined with a Touch Attack
