Paladin's will still cast spells: Indirectly hinted at by Mearls.

While I understand your hope, (Don't agree with it, but I understand it) Paladin has been confirmed as a PHB class for some time now. AFAIK, no mention of Crusaders at all.

I mean a class called Paladin that will have everything the crusader and paladin had MINUS spellcasting.

Ah, you meant Paly killed Crusader ATHS. I see. (Still disagree though. ;))

I actually like spellcasting paladins. Unlike rangers it 'feels' right. I have 0 issue with the holy warriors of a god praying for supernatural effect.

Ranger spellcasting, as I said in that thread, has always felt 'tacked on'.

Ah. Well, I think only wizards will have spells - that will be the name for their per day powers. I think clerics and paladins will have a different name for their per day effects. So while they will use magic, they won't have spells.

I'm not sure if this will satisfy you or not. Every class is going to have per day effects, and even high level martial powers will appear to be magical (they will clearly be superhuman).

They do. They're called prayers. They've already talked about clerics having healing prayers and battle prayers.

Yes,well I don't want paladins to have prayers, or whatever clerical spells are called. I want them to have smites (as seen in the articles, thoughperhaps made less cheesy). I want them to have maneuvers (devoted spirit, white raven, stone power, etc)

But I don't want paladins at low levels calling to their deities for a supernatural effect and having it granted. Sorry, not for me.

Um, all that Mearls implied is that paladins will have some sort of magical abilities. Smites are magical abilities. There's no more reason to think that paladins will have spells then there was a week ago.

Um... Smites are supernatural effects granted by their deities.

In lieu of something better, I'd have to go with the Divine power source being defined as "supernatural effects granted by their deities." As long as the paladin is under the Divine source, that's exactly where all their power comes from.
