1 point of non-lethal if alive, 1 point of lethal if undead.

That's not what the spell says.

1/ Undead are immune to the spell because it's a Fort save which doesn't affect objects; and
2/ As written, only a successful Fortitude save causes "damage"... a failed save causes "non-lethal damage". They're different, you see.

"Saving Throw: Fortitude or Will negates partial; see text."

"Undead that fail a will save take damage from exposure to sunlight as mentioned above, though the damage is lethal."

Yes, they take 1 point of the damage they would normally. Livings take 1 non-lethal, undead lethal, so when it says 1 point of damage, it means the same type of damage.

It didn't seem neccessary to specify any more.

Actually, it specifically states that in the case of undead, it is a WILL save and not a FORT save, and it affects them lethally from the beginning. Despite the fact you're not used to seeing spells with different saves for different creature types doesn't mean there's anything illegal about it.

It also states that for living creatures, the damage is non-lethal until they're knocked out (not the exact wording, but the gist of the effect), at which point it becomes lethal. There is no reason to believe the last sentence dealing with successful saves does not follow the same mechanic as it relates to both living, undead, and sunlight sensitive creatures. Quit nitpicking where none is called for.

My mistake for skimming, sorry! :) I would specify that the damage on a successful save is the same type as it would be for a failed save, just to be totally clear.
