as soon as I saw what you were doing, I assumed the skills would be Persuasion and Animal Handling. I never learned Insight, speaking for myself. (Also, shouldn't there be an ability to slough off layers of exhaustion and function perfectly? No, I didn't think so either.)

Very nicely done! Definitely does what a background should do, that is tie a character into the campaign world. I like it.

Yeah, it's totally a background, just like sailors:
