Jamir nodded as he agreed that the North Gate being opened was not an explanation for how goblins were found deeper into the town. “Perhaps a little bit of special help in the interrogating will get them to talk.” He inclined his head towards Nuko.

He continued talking with the guard, not indicating he understood the goblin's blustering rant yet. “Is Sergeant Vayan still asking around for eye witnesses to determine where the first goblins were spotted. Sad to say, but they might have left some victims where they came in.”

“Has anyone checked the beach over by Junker's Way? What about the two bridges over the Turandarok River? I had not noticed any of them soaking wet from a swim yesterday, but maybe they used boats?”

Nuko replies in goblin "Perhaps I can convince them to give you a better cell, if you give me something to work with. Come, let's talk."

To the guard he says in Common "Take that one to the interrogation room so I can talk with him away from the other goblin. Don't be rough, we need him to cooperate."

One all is in place, Nuko will try his charm person spell (Will neg DC 15). If it fails, he'll try again up to twice more (including his bonded item spell).

If it succeeds (which he'll know since it's a targeted spell), he says in goblin "Perhaps we can help each other out. What I need to know is, why did the goblins raid Sandpoint, and how did they get into town?"

"Aye," the guard nods his head, "Sheriff's put her on permanent patrol detail along the north wall for now. I imagine you can find her 'round those parts. From what I heard, however, she only arrived at the gate to find it open after the fact. And we been questionin' folks all day tryin' to figure out where the goblins were first spotted. Seems they just up and attacked all at once, almost like they planned it. Not like goblins, but what do I know? I never really seen a live goblin 'till yesterday truth be told."

“Has anyone checked the beach over by Junker's Way? What about the two bridges over the Turandarok River? I had not noticed any of them soaking wet from a swim yesterday, but maybe they used boats?”
The guard thinks for a moment, then shakes his head, "Nay, I dinna think anyone even thought about it. Bridges always got at least a pair of lookouts, and the river bank on the town side's pretty steep for the most part. Ways I hear it goblins don't much like water, and it's never been a problem before. We don't even patrol the beaches."

Jamir recalls the following:
 • Sheriff Hemlock inherited the post of sheriff when the previous holder died.
 • By and large, goblins are deathly afraid of horses and dogs. They love fire, but most of them aren't very adept at making it for themselves as they lack the patience. Putting out all the fires at a goblin camp has been known to be a fairly reliable way of keeping them from burning things down for a good while. "Longshanks" is a derogatory term for humans and demihumans; it usually refers to those demihumans taller than goblins but is often generalized to include all demihumans.
Nuko replies in goblin "Perhaps I can convince them to give you a better cell, if you give me something to work with. Come, let's talk."

The guard does his best to comply with Nuko's request to be gentle in taking the goblin to the interrogation room, but the little monster does try to run away. It is a hopeless cause for him in his injured state however. The guard snatches him up and carries him off to the interrogation room. Inside the interrogation room, the goblin succumbs to the charm spell and is soon spilling the beans. He divulges to Nuko that he was ordered to kill everyone in town and burn down the place. As to how they got in, he only knows how his group got in--through the north gate, which was left open. When asked to speculate how some of the other goblins might have gotten in, all he has to say is, "Goblin sneaky!" That seems to be the primary extent of his knowledge. He cannot even seem to recall his leader's name, but when pressed, he does reveal: "we leader was one of you longshanks."

"And that not all,"
the goblin continues. "We leader was on secret mission to sand town graveyard. Me not know what mission was though. It was secret, after all!"

Nuko doesn't like the sound of this. An inside job? And if the leader's a necromancer, things could soon get dicey indeed.

In goblin he continues the interview.

"That's very interesting. Please tell me more about this leader. I'm sure a clever guy like you picked up some more information.

Is the leader a man or woman? A human? A spellcaster?

And, where does this leader live?"

Kelvyn stands quiet as the others move the prisoners about, speaking to them in the harsh Goblin tongue. He knows nothing of the language, and so is limited to what he can tell through body language and voice tone - which is not much. He cracks his knuckles restlessly, and twists his head from side to side to crack his neck as well. Plainly the big man is preoccupied with something, and as he's unable to understand the discussion there's not much to distract him from this preoccupation.

"HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!"

The goblin laughs as if some ribald joke had been told. "Me clever? What funny story you tell! Next you be saying that me write word on paper! HEHEHEHEHE! Me no clever, friend longshanks should know," he says, gesturing to his enchanter. Had the goblin not been charmed, Nuko gets the sense the creature might have taken the suggestion that it was clever as an insult, rather than a joke.

Then, continuing and ignoring the questions for a moment, the goblin winces, "Ow... Me hurt. Laugh make me pained. Why you put me stinky room? This talk go better with burnt dog meat and... ow... heal potion." (Heal)
OOC: Is anyone in this party skilled in Heal or willing to expend healing resources? As I mentioned, this goblin is barely alive. He was gravely wounded in the fight and his wounds have yet to be bandaged up. The spot where Kelvyn cut him down, is matted in filth, goblin blood, and gore. If left untended, he may die or catch fever. Some of you with good alignment might be concerned. Tailspinner, does Thrindar have anything to contribute to this situation? You have been quiet recently.

When snapped back to attention, the goblin does get around to answering the question, "What more me need say for leader? Him longshanks. Him order us kill people and burn town. Me not see leader use magic or see leader home. That all me know."

Along this line of questioning, Jamir further recalls (with his superb Knowledge: local check) that this sort of answer makes quite a bit of sense. Most goblins are followers not leaders. And they need very little incentive to kill people or burn things, as those are two of their favorite pastimes. The fact that this goblin recalls little about the leader besides the fact that he was a human/demihuman is quite reasonable, given that goblins do not generally make much of a distinction between the different types of "longshanks," except for perhaps dwarves, but Jamir suspects if it were a dwarf, that might have already been mentioned. Then again, goblins are a little crazy.

Nuko notes the goblin's reaction for future reference. This was the first time he'd interrogated a goblin, but would likely not be the last.

(In Goblin) "Ha ha, yes. You have a point about the hurt."

He casts prestidigitation and uses the magic to clean the goblin as well as he can.

(In Common) "Thrindar, could you heal him? He is a prisoner, not an active foe. If he is to die let it be by law, not by infection."

Jamir thanked the guard and said, “If we learn anything from this one, we will compare information.”

He followed Nuko and the goblin into the interrogation room. He did not hide his surprise that the charmed goblin started admitting to a leader helping them or the reference to a secret mission. The spell appeared to be working rather well, and the information was likely to be a true as the little bugger knew it to be. He translated for Kelvyn and Thrindar in a low voice about what the goblin was confessing. He also translated Nuko's questions too.

Jamir added his own questions in the Goblin tongue, “You have no name for this leader you followed, what did you call him? When did you first meet him and why had you not killed him first instead of listening to him spin a tale? That sounds kind of odd. Or is your tribe different?”

He looked over to Nuko and the others and spoke in Common, “I think we are going see if any of the others we have were from around the Cathedral. Perhaps one of them can tell us how they were able to sneak into town.”

The bard had his own healing spells, but no skill to really tell the extent of the goblin's injuries. He left that to the dwarven cleric to deal with as requested.

"Thank you, my friend," Kelvyn murmurs in response to the Bard's translation. He continues to listen as the others carry on their questioning, but has little to offer either in the way of questions or of healing skill for the prisoner so he continues his quiet stance and observation.

Thrindar: Initiative +2 / Perception +3 / Sense Motive +3

As Jamir and Nuko go about interrogating the prisoner, Thrindar notices that Kelvyn seems lost. So the dwarf begins descreetly translating the proceedings. When it is suggested that he heal the goblin he nods and channels energy to give the goblin some relief.

OOC: Channel Energy for healing (1d6=2)
