Jamir nodded as the dwarven cleric expressed concern over necromancers. “That is understandable, Thrindar. Except I am not sure there is any evidence at all of a necromancer. Perhaps you can ask at the Cathedral about it and see if they have noticed anything unusual in the cemetery. Mayhap they might even ask us to investigate.”

“Meanwhile, we can go look around to see what Kelvyn’s friend says and talk with Sergeant Vayan to see if we can learn more about the tunnel and the traitor. Sound like a plan?”
he asked.

The dwarf nods to the dashing human. "Agreed! I will check with father Zantus later. Let's go talk to Sergeant Vayan and Kelvyn’s friend."

"Very well, Vayan first. But let's make sure to check the cemetery today. It may be unlikely but who knows what'll happen come nightfall if there are undead around" Nuko says.

Jamir bid the guards a good day and headed out of the dungeon area with his companions. He was not very sympathetic to the plight of the goblins imprisoned and cared not what happened to them really. They deserved quick deaths at best, but he was fine with being uninvolved.

Back outside he said, “Agreed, Nuko. We should be able to do both today, there is plenty of time yet.”

He started heading towards the North Wall in search of Sergeant Vayan. She was said to be patrolling up there and it was at least a few blocks away.

“Kelvyn, where do we need to go to talk with your friend?” he asked curiously as he wondered if they were going be near that location or not.

"Well, that could be just a bit tricky . . . this fine, upstanding fellow is just a little particular about who he meets and why. He'd likely prefer to meet with me alone, especially if he's to reveal knowledge of ways into and out of town of which the gendarme's know nothing," Kelvyn replies as they exit. "I can meet with him later this evening; I know where to find him about sundown, and will seek him out while you all find other ways to investigate or amuse yourselves."

[sblock=OOC]I'm good with the potions remaining in "party stock" if everyone else is. We should likely separate them as far as who'll actually carry them though.[/sblock]

Jamir nodded at the news about Kelvyn's friend. “Well, sundown is much later than we want to wait. Mayhap we will learn something before then with our own investigation and talking with the Sergeant.”

He paused and let Nuko and Thrindar get a bit ahead and then he whispered to Kelvyn, “I am not exactly a law and order person myself and would not divulge information to the gendarmes that was given in confidence. I would be interested in going with you later to meet this fellow, if nothing more than to provide you back up should you need.”

As you are leaving the garrison, you hear the sound of chainmail links clinking and boiled leather bending behind you. You turn to see the Sheriff and a deputy catching up with you. The Sheriff comports himself as he finally comes to face you and the deputy clicks his heels to stand at attention next to him.

The Sheriff's demeanor is slightly more pensive than before. His gruff manner now seems to belie a certain begrudging respect for you and your party. "Be welcome, cousins. I was just visited by Father Zantus. I am... humbled. My previous behavior was... curt."

Perhaps this is as close as you will get to an apology from the Shoanti Sheriff. Still, he is obviously more friendly in tone than befor. "The meeting with the Father was... unfortunate. I spoke with my guard present for your goblin interrogation. Then this tale made more sense. The Father tells of a break-in at the graves last night. The late Father Tobyn's vault was... desecrated. I have ordered the cemetery sealed off for now. My guards have orders to let no one but myself or Father Zantus enter until further notice. Please, if you will, plan a time with me now to meet with me at the cemetery when you are available; you may do as your time allows, and I will make time. It need not be today, but soon I prefer. I would deputize you again and ask you to investigate. You are... proven." (Knowledge: local)

OOC: FYI, this is not a railroad event, merely a clue in your investigation. You are free to pursue leads in any order you prefer, as well as rest and research as you feel the need. Shall it be to Sgt. Vayan at the North Gate first then? If so, you may "bump into" Dr. Jekyll there, and I can kill two birds with one stone.

Jamir blinked at the change in disposition and then smiled as the Sheriff continued. “Sheriff, we are glad of the confidence you have in us.”

“We had intended to speak with Father Zantus about the cemetery and see if we could help in following up on the information we learned. It certainly appears that the goblin attack was a distraction for someone to get up to no good there.”

“However, we were looking into the matter of how the goblins gained entry into the town. We know they found a way in besides using the North Gate and there is a tunnel in one of the buildings. Hopefully that building will also provide the clue we need to narrow down the identity of the traitor that let the little bastards into the town. Do you have any information on possible locations, Sheriff?”

The Sheriff shakes his head woefully, "I am afraid I know as much as you do. Goblins attacked from all directions, all at once. No one questioned seems to know how they arrived in town. The only lead is the open North Gate. When I find who is responsible, my thunder shall roll..."

Hemlock looks north grimly for several moments. Then he turns back, saying, "Sergeant Vayan is responsible for the North Gate. She shall be reprimanded for the oversight, but I find her beyond suspicion. She, as most of my guards, has a strong alibi.

"Yet this news of a tunnel perturbs me. I cannot imagine a traitor in Sandpoint, so I would look for a building in disuse. But perhaps such a traitor is among us. Should you find evidence, I would want to know. But do not accuse without righteous cause. The guard shall begin to search for this tunnel."
