Jamir had an expression of slight confusion at the news about Sergeant Vayan. “Oh, I thought one of your men had mentioned that she had been questioning potential witnesses to determine roughly where the miscreant buggers infiltrated the town.”

It sounded like speaking with the Sergeant after meeting the Sheriff himself would not be an efficient use of their time if they wanted to help looking into the traitor.

“Mayhap it would be best to take care in this search, Sheriff. We would not want to alert this potential traitor to learn ahead of time and let him escape. I have already though some about the possible locations based on what the goblin said.”

“Have you considered checking the Town Hall, The Theater, The Glassworks, The Carpenter’s Guild and the Turandarok Academy? Mayhap any of those places might have been vacant during the festival while everyone was eating and drinking and making merry.”

"Aye, if there is a traitor, he - or she - is sneaky enough to arrange all of this in the midst of your close knit community," Kelvyn says. He looks pensive for a moment, the expression plainly not one his features are used to hosting. "I would know more of Father Tobyn . . . who would have cause to desecrate his grave? I find it unlikely that this gaggle of Goblins would single out one grave - a vault you said, Sheriff? - amongst so many. That speaks of purpose to me."

"I agree. The goblins told us that their leader is not a goblin, so it's likely that he could easily have entered town as a newcomer.

However ... Knowledge of the tunnel, and perhaps of this Tobyn, suggests a deeper connection I think. How long ago did Tobyn die?"
Nuko asks.

Jamir recgonizes that the Sheriff speaks deliberately in the manner of a traditional Shoanti, indicating that his heritage is likely important to him.

In answer to Jamir's question, the Sheriff responds, Hmm, the Town Hall is unlikely. It is too secure. But these other buildings, you have reason to suspect them? I shall prioritize their investigation."

The Sheriff nods to Kelvyn's question, "Father Tobyn was loved by all. He was high priest of the old church before it burned down. As an outsider, you do not know. Tobyn and his daughter, Nualia perished in that fire. It was several years ago, seven, perhaps eight. The vault is a shrine for his remains." (Knowledge: history)

"Hmm. Is it known what caused the fire? It may not be coincidence that the recent attack occurred on a religious holiday, and the grave of a priest was desecrated. Perhaps whoever burned the old church decided to carry on that work" Nuko muses. "We should certainly talk to the priests."

Thrindar listened intently to the exchange between the sheriff and his companions. At the mention of the fire that killed Tobyn and his daughter he tries to recall any knowledge about the incident.

Jamir nodded as Nuko brought up talking with the priest again, “Aye, Nuko. We should talk to them before we go to the cemetery later today. Perhaps the old priest did have a jealous rival or enemy. We are looking for a traitor after all.”

The bard turned back to the Sheriff. “Those five buildings I suggested are large enough and I figured were potentially empty enough that goblins would not have been immediately seen, Sheriff. Not being familiar with any of them, I had not ruled them out yet and our investigation needs to start somewhere, yes?”

“So shall we consider looking into the other four? The Glassworks is just over there,”
he gestured to the street leading west.

“Then we can go around towards Water Street and look at the Turandarok Academy, the Theater and finish up at the Carpenter’s Guild. If we learn nothing then we can start looking into smaller buildings.”

The Sheriff shakes his head with a look of sorrow, "Cause of fire is unknown, but it consumed many buildings around the chapel. Father Tobyn was... old. Perhaps a misplaced candlestick."
Thrindar listened intently to the exchange between the sheriff and his companions. At the mention of the fire that killed Tobyn and his daughter he tries to recall any knowledge about the incident.
Thrindar recalls what the town refers to as "The Late Unpleasantness." About 7 years ago, a man named Jervis Stoot was found to be a serial killer, claiming over two dozen victims over the course of a month, killing himself after suffering a mortal wound in an engagement with the town guard. A month after the murderer was slain, a terrible fire struck Sandpoint. The fire started in the Sandpoint Chapel and spread quickly. As the town rallied to save the church, the inferno expanded, consuming the North Coast Stables, the White Deer Inn, and three homes. In the end, the church burnt to the ground, leaving the town's beloved priest Ezakien Tobyn and his beautiful adopted daughter Nualia dead.

"Very well, as noted, you are deputized to act with all authority of the Sandpoint Guard. Wear these badges as you investigate." The Sheriff hands each of you a copper badge bearing the sigil of the Sandpoint Guard.

Jamir recalls a serial killer and the burning of several buildings around the Sandpoint Chapel during the Late Unpleasantness, but few details.

OOC: Shall the party go to the Glassworks next? Or did you wish to visit another area or split up? There's no rush at the moment.

Jamir put on the badge with some hesitancy as he looked to Kelvyn. Not a few moments before had they just been talking about not really being part of the authorities. His discussion was more about helping the guard redirect their search and accompanying them. But now they had ended up deputized.

The bard said, “Ah… okay, Sheriff. Um, where will you be so we can find you?”

He did not make a move towards Glassworks yet; Jamir thought they should at least discuss it briefly after the Sheriff went about his business.

After the Sheriff takes his leave Nuko says "Here's a little spell that'll allow you and I to whisper to each other at a medium distance. It could come in handy while we're exploring."

He casts message, targeting the others.

"Also, Jamir, hand me one of those potions. If we do find trouble today, it's best if each of us has some means of healing."
